Angela Duckworth’s most famous research project, the study of “grit”, has shown what it takes for a student/worker to be successful. There are several aspects that have been proven to show what it takes to be “gritty”. Not many people possess the factors of what it takes, there are the select few that do. Although we are apart of the same age group, one of my best friends, Jamiee, learned grit better than I ever did. Time management has continued to be a struggle for me, but for Jamiee it seems to come naturally. She can organize her schedule that will best fit all of the extracurricular activities she participates in. Along with her determination, Jamiee showed her perseverance while handling several outside-of-school problems. Personal issues arose during one of the most busiest times of the year, yet she still tried to do her best in everything she was involved in. Although there was a drastic change going on, she still managed to stay in one of the top positions of the class and be one of the best captains this school had ever seen. I sat in the same boat as Jamiee, I had many different conflicts going on at the same time. The first months of my sophomore year brought me down to my lowest point, but I didn’t let anything stand in the way of my studies. I had a sense of defeat fill me, and it was all proven wrong when I ended up top of my class at the end of the year. One of the top researchers in the study of grit has said, “Students who persevere when faced with challenges and adversity seem to have what Angela Duckworth calls, grit.” (Hochanadel and Finamore) The study of grit has shown what it is like to be a determined and persevered student and/or worker. Angela Duckworth’s research has opened windows for people to see what it would take for them to turn out to be successful.
