College Athletes Should Be Paid

Many kids dream of being collegiate athletes, though one must wonder if all the work is worth the risk. Student athletes all around the world are having fun doing what they love and receiving a free education in exchange for their God-given talent, however many don't realize that they’re all at the same risk to be injured and forced to pay for their medical expenses on their own. Not only would they be forced to pay for their medical expense, but also there is a great chance that they would lose their scholarship and all that they have worked for their whole entire life. Many athletes lose their scholarships due to injuries in all levels of college sports. Kyle Hardrick was a D1 athlete at Oklahoma university this college sophomore had had a history of knee problems leading up to this incident. Later on during the 2010-2011 season Kyle had been complaining about knee issues consecutively during this season to come and find out that he had torn his meniscus. Prescribed y one of Oklahoma's doctors the helped Hardrick into rehabilitation, without any knowledge of what the Sooners had later planned to do. Hardrick would later come to find out this was the parting of the Hardrick and Sooners connection, and that the Sooners would no longer help kyle through his rehabilitation or medical expenses. Therefore leaving kyle and his mother with $20,000 dollars in medical expenses, and kyle without a scholarship, or anything else to work toward after all his years of trying to become a D1 athlete. Although there are many more cases of athletes losing their scholarships due to injuries Kyle Hardricks is the most saddening, and upsetting because Hardrick a 6’8 forward had committed to play as a sooner when he was just 14 and then for the school to just drop the linky forward at the drop of a dime after a torn meniscus is very disheartening for a sports fan and definitely for the childs mother and family members who were very excited to watch their family play at a top notch school. This is why student athletes should be compensated or paid, that way incase something comes up that does require a school to release an athletes under any circumstances the athletes will be covered hopefully able to cover the medical expenses and possibly another shot at college life. Without all the sports and politics involved just a normal student. Trying to obtain a normal education. Now my opposition would ask how would these contracts get divided and distributed, all
