Cod Fishing Problem

298 Words1 Page

Recent studies have found that the warming waters in the Gulf of Maine have reduced Atlantic cod populations. These new findings are implying that the past sustainability levels for cod fishing will stall the future in managing cod populations. With warming water temperatures that are occurring globally, the survival state of cod offspring is decreasing and predators are arriving in fish breeding grounds sooner in the year than the ideal time, leaving fewer offspring to mature and become adults, causing less fish. The size of future fish populations rests in future temperature conditions.
