1. Explain why many Deaf people are opposed to the use of Cochlear implants.
• Many Deaf people are opposed to the use of cochlear implants because it’s like not accepting themselves. They need to embrace who they are and cope with the tools they have without doing any surgery. In order for them to have the cochlear implant they need to go through surgery. Deaf people are opposed to other member getting the cochlear implant because it’s like if they were ashamed to be born Deaf. They believed that they want to change who they are to try to fit into the rest of the society. The Deaf community have come a long way with advance technology and embrace it into their culture. Indeed, they have added caption into the television for Deaf people to be able to know what they are saying in the Television. Television has the ability to have open and closed captions. They are able to utilize TTY phone system and text messages. In addition, SMS messages are also used by hearing people. Text messages have been a great way to communicate easier and faster in less than a minute. Now in days, everyone has access to smartphone and send a text message from anywhere. Advanced technology has been a benefit for Deaf people and hearing people. Another way that technology has been a benefit for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people is daily usage tools like the vibrating alarm clock and video phones. Technology has been upgrading as the world has change and as it becomes more useful. For instance, the cell phones were only used for calling. On the other hand, cell phones have upgraded to the point you can facetime, text, navigate, and access to internet. We can relate technology to evolution. We are using technology to meet our needs in life. The deaf community depend on technology to meet their needs. Overall, they need alarm clock, assisted listening device, cell phones, and flashing fire
