Coca-Cola is a name that is known across all seven continents. Coca-Cola is one of the largest beverage companies in the world. It all started back in 1886 when Dr. John S. Pemberton became curious and creative which led him to make a unique soft drink. He created a flavor of syrup. He made a syrup from sugar and then combined it with carbonated water and created the first ever Coca-Cola. Dr. Pemberton took his combination of syrup and carbonated water back to his home time Pharmacy, Jacobs Pharmacy, where they tasted the combination and thought it was “excellent.” They then began to sell the new product for five cents a bottle.
Shortly after creating the Coca-Cola soft drink, Dr. John S. Pemberton passed away. Before he passed away he sold parts of his business to different individuals but a majority was sold to Asa G. Candler. Under Asa’s leadership the company began to grow exponentially. Today Coca- Cola is making over 41 billion dollars of revenue per year. They have expanded into other markets outside of the soda business. For example they own dasani water, vitamin water, powerade, fuze, simply orange, and many other small companies. They have caused water shortage for those villages near or around the plants. The water shortage has forced locals to not be able to do everyday tasks. Their crops are dying due to the lack of water, as well as they are not able to get clean water where they live due to the bottling plants. Some have to travel to other villages or rely on the government supply for clean water. For example in a village called Plachimada which is in the southern India, they are going through a horrible drought due to Coca-Cola so they have to rely on the government to bring a truck of clean water to their villages.
