In A Tale of Two Cities, Dickens seems to love to demonstrate how rich the rich actually are. One guy even needs four servants to make his hot chocolate every morning in the book. It’s this sort of excess wealth that breeds discontent –especially when the poor are on their hands and knees in the street licking up drops of spilled wine. The French Revolution began as a critique of the aristocracy; as Dickens demonstrates. However, the "classless" formation of the new French Republic becomes yet another form of class violence. Someone’s always in power. And the powerless always suffer. This idea is also illustrated in the poem, The Ballad of the Landlord. This song by N.W.A. shows classism and racism rolled up into an almost 6-minute video. “A young n**ga got it bad cause I 'm brown/And not the other color so police think/ They have the authority to kill a minority” Though it is directly about racism, one must understand the connotation with being black during that time. The song Short People is a widely misinterpreted song about people with small minds. Those types of people always think of themselves as above others Randy Newman illustrates. “They got little hands/And little eyes/And they walk around/Tellin ' great big lies/They got little noses/And tiny little teeth/They wear platform shoes/On their nasty little feet” Them wearing platform shoes as to be above the others and little eyes to avoid seeing the truth.
