In 1960 American Journalist and Politician, Clare Boothe Luce delivered a speech to Journalists at the Women's National Press CLub, criticizing the American Press in favor of public demand for sensational stories. Luce prepares her audience for her message through the use of a critical tone. Luce begins her speech by self-contradicting herself about feeling "happy" and "flattered" which she later advances to say that she is feeling "less happy" therefore giving off the impression that her speech won't be as positive as they may assume it to be. She makes sure to reassures them by stating that they have asked for her opinion on "what's wrong" with the American Press. Luce continues her speech by stating that there is no audience of Journalists
