The Fall of Civilization and Order in Lord of the Flies In the book Lord of the flies, by William Golding, we see the slow deterioration of a society. Of course, if you leave a group of young school boys who used to live by a strict set of rules on a deserted island, they are bound to go a little crazy. At first, the boys establish rules and whatnot, forgetting simple little tasks. Then, the boys start to rebel a bit, eventually separating and becoming more violent as time passes. The “dance” mentioned previously was a reenactment of killing the pig and the game gets much more violent and horrible. This is the beginning of the boys, especially the hunters, plunging into chaos. More jobs are being forgotten, showing the deterioration of order in their “society.” People start to ignore Ralphs orders, primarily Jack though. The boys are getting progressively more violent. The dance was already violent but, they want to add more to it like a drum and have a costume for the “pig” who gets hurt quite bad. This, unfortunately, kills Simon. Order is crumbling at an alarming rate. The boys are getting too absorbed in the dance, and commit murder as a result. At this point in Flies, the boys separate into two groups.
