The song civil war was performed and composed by the classic rock n roll band Guns and Roses. The bands members consisted of; Axl Rose, Slash, Duff, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler and was released on the 3rd of May 1993 as a single, asking the important question ‘What’s so civil about war anyway?’ Civil War is a classic protest song about war and its effect on people, while it highlights the government’s inability to talk out problems, how they have not learned from their mistakes and how the young continue to pay the ultimate price and continue to do so in each successive war. The song expresses frustration that a single individual cannot be heard while the leaders of each country use propaganda to deflect the reason for each war and brain wash people into believing that they are fighting for human rights and religion ‘and the wars go on with brainwashed …show more content…

The song has a bridge which appears first in the lyrics preparing the reader for the rest of the song ("What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach...So, you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it! Well, he gets it! N' I don't like it any more than you men.")The song then goes into the 5 verses, in between the chorus that is repeated 3 times. Altogether the song has 11 codas. The song effectively delivers the message of the song using a consistent structure.
The auditory elements in Civil War creates participation in the song. The angry and aggressive song has a hard rock and heavy metal vocal style. As the song starts off slow it has an acoustic guitar and whistling sound in the background. But as the sound turns around going to a faster pace all the instrumentation evolves.
