Letter from Birmingham Jail is about the unjust treatment of the black community. Martin’s definition of Civil Disobedience was going against a law that someone saw was unjust and accepting the conscious if that be jail time or even something more severe. Martin states in his letter that if an individual “accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.” King stands by this throughout his entire letter and expresses his thoughts with great passion.
