The chronological resume seems to be the most popular format used. They are straightforward and easy to scan. It contains a chronological listing (from most recent to the past) of all your employment along with related accomplishments. Education information is included along with certification and special skills.
Advantages:
A chronological resume is particularly useful for people who:

Functional Resume
Functional resumes highlight your abilities rather than your chronological work history. Your skills are organized into categories. You'll still need to summarize your work history, but this is usually done at the bottom of your resume. By the time the reader has gotten to that point he/she is usually sold on bringing you in for an interview.

One piece of job data to collect is job identification. The job identification identifies the title, departments, and a number of employees who hold that job (Newman 2017). The second piece of job data to collect is the content. The content is the actual work or tasks performed (Newman, 2017). It should be detailed and include all conditions, demands, and roles (Newman, 2017). Finally, the employee data should be collected. This entails employee characteristics and internal and external relationships.
The steps that I’m taking to making myself a stronger candidate for employers is by getting better at statistical analysis, research, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Also, since I’m coming into my final courses as an undergraduate, I will be interning in the next 6 months to a year. In class, we discussed that sometimes internships can lead to possible job opportunities, and that is a huge advantage to have when trying to find a job after college. If my internship doesn’t end in a job opportunity, I plan on applying to the Officer Training Program in the Air Force. The career services professional supports the educational mission of a college by assisting students to develop, evaluate, and pursue career aspirations with the goal of securing employment. Career services professionals accomplish these goals with a range of programs, counseling and services designed to help students make the connection between the academic environment and the workplace. Career Counseling, or Career Services depending on the institution, is frequently offered on a one-on-one basis, but at times this service is provided through group workshops, classes, or computerized guidance systems. Traditionally a standard function of the career services role is to help students develop job search skills however the scope of the career development services has broadened considerably in recent years (Komives, Woodard, & Associates, 2003, p. 344). Career services professionals may teach resume writing, critique students' resumes and cover letters, provide resources on resume and employment letter writing, job interviewing skills, and planning job search strategies.
Portfolios serve the purpose of an extensive record of a student’s best work and skills. As the student progresses through life, record keeping and reflection becomes an expectation. A résumé cannot possibly describe the entire list of qualities each individual possesses. As a result, portfolios thrive in high schools and offices alike to demonstrate a person’s capabilities in the greatest detail. Any person with a future-oriented mindset should have a portfolio to create opportunities for a successful life.
Over the course of this semester I have learned a lot about myself, such as what I am good at, what I am bad at, what I can improve on, and what needs no attention at all. I have learned how to write a cover letter, and resume, which is essential to finding a job anywhere. Thanks to this call I understand how much time and effort has to be put into finding a career, and not just a job. If I want to go nowhere in life I should throw a resume together with no important information, and treat it like fishing bait, I may catch something big, or get nothing at all. However, if I want a career I will need to research the company, connect with the correct internal people and get my resume in the right hands.
