Why is he significant to Canada? What makes that significant?
Chris Hadfield was born in 1959 in Sarnia, Ontario. He was raised on a corn farm in Milton, Ontario and became an astronaut for the Canadian Space Agency(CSA). Chris Hadfield is an inspiration to all aspiring Canadians who want to be an astronaut and has shown people that even with small beginnings they can become famous and significant to Canada. This sudden surge in popularity allowed for Chris Hadfield to increase the interest towards a career as an astronaut. He was the head astronaut at the CSA so he could share his experiences and was the first Canadian to do many things in space.

He was the first Canadian to walk in space and the first to operate the Canadarm. In a different interview he was asked “During the 2001 mission, you became the first Canadian to walk in space. What’s the hardest thing to adapt to when you’re moving outside in space?” and “You were well-known when you went into space the last time, but you returned to Earth a celebrity. When did that hit home?” [5]. It is evident that Chris Hadfield is a pioneer for the new frontier, space. Additionally, Chris Hadfield was the first to operate the Canadarm in orbit. He completed several simulations before using the Canadarm in space. He used the arm to install a Russian docking module [6]. This shows his exploration of new technology that can only be used in space. To sum up, Chris Hadfield was a pioneer for the exploration of space as he was the first Canadian to walk and space and first Canadian to operate the never used before Canadarm therefore showing his significance to Canada.

Firstly, he constructing the base of canadian culture. One thing he did was that he set the foundation of bringing bilingualism into being. Terry Fox has become the poster child of the person who can overcome any obstacle and triumph over any adversity that stands in his way. This is important to Canada because he is a reflection of the character of Canadians that is seen around the world. Terry Fox has given Canada a true role model. Terry Fox has shown the world that Canadians are full with heart and determination. He has shown Canadians, and the world that perseverance will pay off. Terry Fox had all the obstacles lined up and he knocked them down, although the malignant tumor in his right leg finally overwhelmed Terry, he still overcame numerous obstacles. Terry Fox had dealt with the tumor in his leg and he overcame the amputation of his leg. He also managed to train for the marathon of hope even though overcoming a physical and emotional amputation. He also was able to start his run for the marathon of Hope, by an valiant attempt to run across Canada raising money as he ran. Even though Terry Fox did not complete his goal he still lives on today in our currency, stamps, and many more ways. Terry Fox has given Canada some one that they can try to measure up to.
The government has truly been molding Canada into the wonderful country that it is today. Whether the changes have been good or bad, the government has always been trying their best to solve problems such as takes high income, racism, and making sure that Canada is seen as the cleanest and economically friendly place that it is today. Chris McCandless left his mark on the world and should be respected for being brave enough to challenge himself like this. McCandless went to Alaska searching for adventure and to live off the land. He wanted something more in life. When he went into the Alaskan wilderness , McCandless overcame so many obstacles than the average person wouldn't be able to handle. He was prepared and had all the skills he needed to survive in the wild. McCandless kept fighting against all odds and never gave up on fulfilling his dreams. He deserves more respect and admiration than he got.
He was top of his class and had the grades to get into Harvard law school. he had pretty wealthy parents that wanted to buy him a new car. He had a secure future but he didn’t want that, he didn’t want to conform to society. Christopher had an adventurous side to him and he felt that nothing was more damaging to a man’s adventurous spirit than a secure future. So he gave up everything that he had and worked for and walked into the wild. This really shows how strong Christopher McCandless’s convictions were.
Chris McCandles is unique, inspiring, and a cautionary tale all at once. His journey is one that is as unbeliavable as it saddening and there’s a lot to be learned from people like McCandles, people who are the groundbreakers and visionarys of our time. Chris didn’t become the person he was without inspiration and some of the people who inspired Chris to be the person he was through their like-tales and similar struggles are some of the best athours and philosiphers to have lived. Among them I have chosen Leo Tolstoy, Mark Twain, and Jack London; these people share similarities with McCandles through their struggles, beliefs, jobs, decisions, and up-bringings. They are ultimately the puzzle pieces that make up Chris McCandles, and they are the friends that travelled with him on his journey into the wild.
