As China was a very large and established nation during the millennium from 200 BCE to 800BCE, it is no surprise that it had a large span of influence upon it's surrounding neighbors. (Mckay. 196) The Tang dynasty being established from the years of 618 - 907. (Mckay 193.) As China had been not only a large military force but a force of cultural and artistic exchange. It's surrounding neighbors such as Japan, Vietnam and Korea were surely to have drawn on the ideas of Chinese culture. In this discussion will be the paper will be the discussion of Chinese culture and the effects that it had upon Vietnam and Korea.

For example, Vietnam had great influence after the collapse of the Qin Dynasty in 206 B.C.E. (Mckay 197) General Zhao was in the far south and established his own kingdom known as Nam Viet. (Mckay. 197) The thing is Chinese style culture was first adopted by the social elite. Things such as poetry, the written language, eating utensils and simple items such as soy sauce were eventually integrated into everyday life. Due to being such an expansive land mass with a large population, it;'s not a surprise as to the fact as to why it was able to expand it's culture to the outlying nations. Even though one country would draw ideals from culture, one of the most prominent means of trading ideas was through the written language of "brush conversation." (Mckay. 197) As the state of China was very imperialistic in it's approach and set out to expand it's territories, the subjugation and eventual integration of the native people, it would be logical for ideas and culture to spread thoroughly and easily as it did through China. Things such as weapons and technology would grant China and the outlying Asian countries the capacity to grow and develop amongst each other, with their own sense of culture and identity. Korea's adoption of China's Bronze and Iron Age technology, would surely play a large factor in influencing the development of Korean culture. In these reasons, this is to explain as to how China played a role in affecting Korean and Vietnamese
