Reading, and writing assignments that you give children can be very difficult for them to remember exactly what needs to be done. One easy way to help them remember is to give them a to do list that can be easily seen on a board. This works well for book reports, or teaching children to take notes while they are reading. You can easily use your computer to print out the weekly schedule to be placed on the board. If you prefer you can use a brightly colored construction paper. Just write down the assignments that have to be done for the week. Leave a few blank lines so your child can write down a few notes on whether or not the assignment was done. You can also use card stock paper which will hold up a lot better. You can even add a few cartoon clip art characters to the paper for your child to color. This also frees up your time to help other children who may be homeschooling. Keep in mind that all children need to learn a little independence at some point. In the beginning keep the list simple. Maybe you could add just two or three assignments for the first week for young children. Try not to overwhelm your children with a really long list. The key is to keep the homeschool environment as relaxed as possible. Sometimes when we as parents try to duplicate the homeschool environment we end up stressing out our children. When it comes to scheduling your assignments for the week you want to try and keep the list simple. Try not to match what the schools do. They usually have a very strict rigid schedule even for the young children. As a homeschooling you do not have to have things done this way.
