Recommended: Effects of violence on children

The great amount of information and research done for the policy, Keeping Children and Families Safe Act of 2003, it addresses a social problem that has been going on for years. The safety of children and families of abuse is something that should not go unnoticed. There is no right where the safety and well-being of children alone and families should go in danger. The abuse, neglect, and exposure of abuse can leads to psychological and physical pain. Children that experience and exposed to violence are “at risk of internalizing and externalizing behavior problems…and increased vulnerability” (Moylan et al., 2010, p. 8-10). Neglected children become involved with “neuropsychological and psychosocial outcomes” that could have been prevented …show more content…

The policy explains what is and should be done, due to abuse, neglect, and domestic disputes. Something should be done to prevent an increase of physical and psychological harm. Based on that, from my observation in the society I live in, it is being done. There is a maximum amount of treatment, resources, support, individuals, and organizations that are doing their job to bring an end to any form of violence. That is still being done today. Not only are there other type of services assisting children and families, social workers are advocates for those inferior to abuse and neglect. As indicated by Allen-Meares (1997), “social workers are called upon to uphold the long tradition of advocating for vulnerable populations” (as cited in Bliss, 2015, p. 1). This is true about social workers because when children, women, and other population are unable to speak out, social workers portray their professional role to speak on their behalf. Social workers help them to have a voice, and assist them towards several resources that are available for them to obtain. As we have learned earlier in the course, the violence that a child experiences early in life has an overall affect on the person they become as they grow into adulthood. When children deal with adverse childhood experiences, they are at a higher risk for abusing drugs and/or alcohol, increased likelihood of abusing their own child or spouse, higher rates of violent and nonviolent criminal behavior, along with several other issues throughout their lifespan.
