I. Clients Identification
The client is Ms. Margaret Simeon, 45 years of age, married, Canadian Citizen, and of South Asian descent. Ms. Margaret has a degree in Nursing and has practiced for a short period. After marrying Mr. Joe Simeon, she became a homemaker and had not gained employment since.
II. Presented Problem
Ms. Simeon disclosed that she was stressed and worried that she wasn’t able to prevent and restrain her son, David (17 years), from constantly bullying her younger son Mark (15 years old) because of apparent differences in interests. Although she narrated that there were instances that she was able to persuade David to stop, it would soon reoccur. Client revealed and alleged that her husband, Mr. Joe Simeon, physically abused her on two separate occasions. The first incident happened when her husband came from work enraged after knowing that the latter was passed for a promotion. She claimed that he had “worked hard and invested a lot of time” to qualify for the promotion. However, she taught that he vented his frustration to her. The second incident happened after a lunch party in their house. She claimed that her husband was “drunk” at that time. Cognition and Attitudes
Ms. Simeon perceived that her current actions and solutions to the prevent David from allegedly “bullying” have been insufficient and ineffectual. She thinks that as a mother it was her responsibility to take care of this dilemma before it escalates. For this reason, she did not let this issue reach her husband, Mr. Joe, as the latter had been stressed already not only, according to her, because of the rigors of work but also having failed to received promotion that he allegedly worked hard.
About the incident with her husband, Ms. Margaret’s was fearful of the possibility that her husband would likely physically abuse her again for keeping the interview secret. Despite that possibility, she decided not to call the police. Her decision was shaped by a lot of factors. First, she felt unsecured since she had no emotional support from an immediate social circle. Her only known living relative, her aunt, was too old to assist. Her only close friend, Joan, lived overseas. Second, she was not financially secured to separate herself from Mr. Joe. Third, she claimed that it would be likely that her husband would be informed if she calls the police where he had friends. Lastly, she feared that the police would not do anything to solve her problems because she perceived that the persons working in the police “knew each other” implying that they will not do anything to hurt a fellow officer.
