Chemistry is “the science that deals with the composition and properties of substances and various elementary forms of matter”. There are five branches of chemistry. There is organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and biochemistry. We are affected by chemistry everyday. Whether it is the air we breathe or what is in soil, chemistry is everywhere. You can get various careers that involve the use of chemistry. You can be a forensic chemist, a geochemist, or even a food chemist. They each are unique in their very own way and require different abilities.
Crimes. They are happening everyday and we need people to help solve these mysteries. Who has the ability to help analyze the evidence? That's right; forensic chemists. Whether it is blood on an article of clothing or a mysterious substance on the floor, forensic chemists can use these things to help solve a crime. Forensic chemists are needed to solve crimes and bring justice to the people who have been harmed. A career in forensic chemistry is for you if you like to bring justice using science.
You must go to school in order to be a forensic chemist. A person who is pursuing the path of a forensic chemist goes to school usually for four to six years. You should have a four year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a subject in life science, physical science, or engineering. You must also have a strong background in criminalistics, chemistry, and instrumental analysis. Forensic science positions require a bachelor’s degree to work in the field. Understanding of legal procedures and knowledge can be helpful. Job candidates that have extensive hands-on experience with a variety of laboratory equipment, that includes computers and related equipment, don’t require a long period of on-the-job training. People that are interested in a career as a forensic science technician should take as many high school science and math courses as possible. Science courses taken beyond high school, in a bachelor or an associate’s degree program, should be laboratory oriented, with an emphasis on bench skills. Every day, hundreds of law enforcement officers go out to investigate crimes, whether it is a robbery, a car accident, a suicide, or even a homicide. But has civilization ever stopped to wonder who those behind – the - scene guys are that put all the pieces of evidence together but do not really receive credit for it or the amount of training that goes into becoming a forensic scientist? How about if the forensic science strategies depicted on TV is actually true. Society can give credit to the thousands of forensic scientists who spend their days deciphering evidence ,which is not as dazzling and fantastic as TV plays it out to be. In fact, most of the things portrayed on TV are actually false. Although the forensic science strategies used in the TV shows seem amazing, they are not representative of the real profession and people should realize there is a huge difference between fiction and the real work done. This research paper debates the technology of forensic science, the training involved, the careers that are associated with the field and also how this topic is presented in film.

Although forensic toxicology is concerned with what toxic substances contributed or caused death to an individual, it also plays a major role in simple drug testing that doesn’t involve death whether it be drug screening for future employees or even testing which chemicals were involved in sexual assault cases. Regardless of the situation, a forensic toxicologist is involved with determining toxins in the body. Without the use of forensic toxicology, there would be a major hole in forensic science and would make it more difficult for determining causes and times of death in many sorts of cases.

Forensic scientists work in labs where they examine, identify, and interpret evidence collected in crime scenes. Crime scene investigators collect evidence and pass it to a forensic scientist who uses the items in numerous ways to help catch criminals. Forensic scientists must also record the evidence and any tests run on it in detail to prove the truth in court. A forensic scientist also has to be able to present his or her physical evidence verbally in court, so a strong communication background is important. The first step taken to become a forensic scientist is to first pass the education required to become one.

Forensic science has now been recognized as an important part of the law enforcement team to help solve crimes and cold cases. The advances in technology are being used each day and we must continue to strive to develop better advances in this field. The recent discovery of using DNA in criminal cases has helped not only positively identify the suspect, but it has helped exonerate hundreds of innocent individuals. “With new advances in police technology and computer science, crime scene investigation and forensic science will only become more precise as we head into the future.” (Roufa, 2017) Forensic science and evidence helps law enforcement officials solve crimes through the collection, preservation and analysis of evidence. By having a mobile crime laboratory, the scene gets processed quicker and more efficiently. Forensic science will only grow in the future to be a benefit for the criminal justice

Throughout my school career I have always loved chemistry. In Chemistry there was always a sense that there was more, there was always something new and exciting to be discovered and theories to be proven (or even disproven). Chemistry was the main subject with a real practical aspect to it during school and it is this, along with my genuine fascination with the subject, which fuels my desire to study it further.
