What is cheating? Cheating can be defined in many ways in any field within it. The best definition for this word is acting dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage. We all know cheating is wrong in any type of way. The sport that is most talked about in cheating is baseball, with all these players using drugs to gain an advantage. Anyone who cheats should be punished for their actions in sports, but it has always and will happen no matter what, but it is up to the commissioner of the professional sport and referees to stop this. When it comes to sports, cheating is the worst thing you can do because it diminishes the pureness of the contest.
What is the cause and effect of cheating in baseball when baseball players in today’s time take steroids or other PEDS (Performance Enhance Drugs) or using another method to cheat? By using steroids or PEDS (Performance Enhance Drugs), the cause would be the players can gain a competitive advantage in their sport and can cause assumptions. The effect of the player’s actions would cause the player to be suspended with or without pay. Players in the MLB (Major League Baseball) are the top suspects every year in using these PEDS and each year it gets worse by the player. Baseball players who reach the professional level should not use PEDS to set an example to younger athletes and future generations that if they can reach the pros without using PEDS then they do not need to use them at all when they get there.

This should prove that baseball will never fully stop the use of PEDs, they can only cover up the ones that have. Major League Baseball (MLB) has widely been regarded as America’s pastime for the longest time, however it is now becoming known as the sport tainted by one thing, anabolic steroids. An anabolic steroid is related to the natural steroid, testosterone. They are able to stimulate growth in the muscle tissue. They usually increase muscle mass and strength. The MLB has created some of the most historic American icons, such as Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. Players like them showed us what it was like to play baseball the right way. They played with passion, heart, and above all they had fun playing. Players today in the MLB focus way too much on becoming the best player ever to play. They see what the greats did before them and they want to match them, so they turn to anabolic steroids. An example of this is Alex Rodriguez. In 2003 he tested positive for anabolic steroids because he was “naïve” and couldn’t take the pressure of his expectations of being called the best. He felt the pressure from the game and he turned to steroids. Anabolic steroids are ruining the game of baseball. They are tainting the records and the changing the game for the worse.
In American high schools across the country, many people buy, sell, and use drugs. In addition, these people influence everyone around them. On these campuses, some of the people influenced by this illegal activity are sports players. One of the sports most affected is baseball. There are a few ways to cheat in baseball, the big one is steroids or HGH (human growth hormone). Another way is corking your bat, and that’s what my experiment is all about. Now I am not using wood bats like the MLB does I am using 2 aluminum bats, one corked and one normal. One bat I will take the top off and put some type of ball or substance that will make that bat bounce more, like a few racquet balls or something like that. The theory is to make the ball go a lot farther than with just a regular bat. The experiment calls for wood bats but I altered it just a tad and used aluminum bats because that sounds more interesting to me. I chose this experiment because I really like baseball and this one stood out to me more than anything else on sciencebuddies.

Most recently, cheating has been found in the cases of Albert Belle and Sammy Sosa, who both had their bats corked. Although cheating has always circulated the game, there is a new philosophy to cheating that has become widespread. Apparently, many players are getting away with this new form of cheating.
We face the issue that players are not motivated to try hard, have an alternative option that puts a reoccurring substance in their body. Young adolescents should focus more on getting bodies into shape and ready for the sport they are pursuing. Since at least the 1980’s performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) have been a major challenge in the world of Major League Baseball, and past trends indicate they will continue to pose an ongoing problem. A number of the most prominent and accomplished professional baseball players, such as Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Roger Clemens, are also the most famous examples of baseball players who have broken longstanding records, attracted countless numbers of fans, and allegedly have taken performance-enhancing drugs. Athletes who have been caught using steroids in order to increase and better their performance rates have been suspended, fined and traded from the teams on which they once played. Despite the punitive actions taken against them by the League and lawmakers, players continue to use performance-enhancing drugs and likely will continue to do so, because the associated athletic effects will draw more fans and bring more money to the individual player and franchise.
