In this assignment I will try to persuade you of my beliefs as to whether or schools should
expel students who are caught cheating on exams and or plagiarizing their homework
assignments. It 's easy for students to get so caught up in the overwhelming stress of school that
they forget about the consequences of their decisions. Cheating might seem like the best solution
for a student who doesn 't study, can 't completely research a paper or is struggling to avoid failing
a class. The consequences of cheating, however, can be truly terrible and vary from temporary

message delivered clearly. They draw in their audience and explain their views. Rhyming quotes
on posters would help students remember them. Putting celebrities on posters is also a great way
to draw in students attention. You want to make sure that when you are trying to portray your
message across, that you are doing it in a way that attracts others visually. A picture of a
celebrity or athlete is a great example of that. As a child we are taught morals. You 've probably
heard the old saying that goes: "When you cheat, you 're really cheating yourself." It may seem
childish, but it does make a lot of sense. Schools can help develop us into better people n a lot of
different ways. School is where you begin to learn most of your life lessons. If you choose to not
learn life tools because you’re cheating, then you’re going to find yourself struggling and making
poor decisions for your future.

Students start to build up a comfort level with their
teachers and overtime they can usually find out a way to beat the system. Students should always
be strongly monitored in a classroom environment. I say this not only because of cheating but
also because of violence.
So you may say well how can a teacher watch and monitor all of their students? That is a
good question. A solution to that problem is the school can provide security cameras that monitor
the students work. Security cameras are an ever present device that is designed specifically to
monitor activities. I believe this would be a great choice to monitor students in a classroom. It
would reduce cheating by students knowing that they are always being watched not just by the
teacher but from cameras as well.
The third solution to cheating is teachers must know the methods that students use to
cheat. You can’t win a war without knowing what the enemy is doing as well. What are some of

I believe that schooling should enable its students to identify the flaws in society and seek to take action to address these flaws. While I do not believe that society, as is, is terrible, I do acknowledge that there are clear flaws in many social and political systems in this country. Thus, I believe that schools should serve as the educational means for identifying these issues. I believe that society and schooling depend heavily on each other. Schooling should not serve as a mechanism to maintain the current social order – in fact, it should do the opposite. Surveillance cameras on schools campuses have been very successful. It is my opinion, there is no other option but to have surveillance cameras installed. By having these surveillance cameras student safety would be ensured, school vandalism would decrease, and the number of students cutting class would be lowered. Surveillance cameras would also serve as a deterrent from violent behavior by students. How bad has cheating become over the years, the numbers in some cases are mind-boggling. In today’s day and age the amount of college students cheating is numbered to have maintain a steady figure of about 75 percent. (Lang, 2013) Cheating has been around since the beginning of time, some of the reasons behind most of the prolific cheaters are centered on what seems to be three main issues plaguing our society. Cheaters be it young or old, all seem to have what I call the “Big Three” in common. In my research on cheating, there were three things that continued to stick out, such as; procrastinating, the pressure to make the grade and it is easier to cheat rather then to do your own work. To the answer the question why college students cheat, we must first understand why, in order to find a solution on how to help avoid this continuing going forward. After reading this paper you will see that cheating has become prevalent in college, caused by a need to get better grades with less original work being done eventually the ends don't justify the means.
Situations of cheating have seemed to become more and more commonplace when the student is bored by the subject material, poor teaching and or feels they have no use for the knowledge. Kohn even states in his article, “cheating is more common when students experience the academic tasks they’ve been given as boring, irrelevant, or overwhelming.” This infers that if a student were attending a school interested in learning about art, the student maybe more inclined to cheat in a business accounting class due to the fact the student would find the subject material irrelevant to them and their future. Students seem to be less inclined to cheat and it “is relatively rare in classrooms where the learning is genuinely engaging and meaningful to students and where a commitment to exploring significant ideas hasn’t been eclipsed by a single-minded emphasis on “rigor”” (Kohn). According to the article “Is Student Plagiarism Increasing”, students still understand that plagiarism is wrong, they say; they are just lazy and choose to plagiarize because they believe they can get away with it.” (“Is Student Plagiarism Increasing?”). Schools can implement harsher punishments for cheating, they can embarrass the cheater by publishing their name or even worse, they can expel them from school but even with those potential consequences, students are still cheating because they are getting away with it. Even with tools used now to catch plagiarism, no program is fool proof. If more than 50% of students admit to cheating but very few get caught, it’s impossible to completely stop students from cheating. While there may be many ways to curb cheating in some students who are mature and focused on their educations and learning the course material, these same methods may not work on a cheater. Cheating on exams is a violation of college standards; it is a misrepresentation of the student’s true capabilities. Cheating can be the worst form of deception, it is considered to be unethical, and it is the opposite of honesty. Forms of academic dishonesty may include copying from the test of someone within eyesight, crib sheets or swapping papers. Likewise because of technological advances, such as the I-phone some of these devices may be used to cheat as well. For instance an exam could be photographed and e-mailed to another student. I believe it is relatively safe to assume if a person is going to cheat on college exams, they are likely to make similar choices in other areas of their life. The practice of cheating can contribute to the moral decline of the family and society. Perhaps their need to be right is stronger than wanting to do the right thing. However, we all know what it feels like when someone cheats us; the cheater may not think that their actions affect anyone, however their can be unintended consequences. Consequently doing the right thing usually requires more time and hard work so the cheater typically rationalizes they do it because they did not have enough time to study.
The major reason which leads to popularity of cheating is that students always desire to have good marks. Today’s academic system is generally based on grade point average or some other alphabetical or numerical representation of academic skill. If students notice that many classmates have high marks, they also want the fame of having good grades. Therefore, this pressure unintentionally causes students to value their goods marks much more than their knowledge. Eventually, students do anything to achieve good marks, even cheating in exams.
Do teachers change when an administrator evaluates them? Do parents worry too much about their kids being in school? Have many students around the world been falsely accused of something they didn’t do? All of these problems can be eliminated with one little piece of technology hanging from the ceiling. That little piece of technology is a surveillance camera which can be placed almost anywhere. Many schools are determining whether or not to install security cameras in classrooms. Those who have, have seen dramatic changes in teachers, students, and even parents. Cameras have many helpful factors. For instance, cameras can be used to train future teachers, broadcast to students at home, and deal with bullying. Having cameras in a classroom environment are beneficial for students, teachers, parents, and schools because they hold teachers accountable, help students improve their behavior, and evaluate teacher and student interactions.
