The elements of magical realism that was shown in the book and in the film, particularly in the Chabela’s Wedding Cake part was actually quite the same. Tita and Pedro are madly in love with each other. But unfortunately, Tita is the youngest and is prohibited from marrying; she must also take care of her mother until the death of her mother; and must conserve her virginity. Apparently, her mother, Mama Elena told her that Pedro agreed to marry her sister, Rosaura and that Tita is in charge of all the preparations. Tita and Nacha were the ones that are preparing in the kitchen. They were making the cake for Pedro and Rosaura’s wedding. But when Mama Elena left the Kitchen and went to bed, Nacha embraced Tita and told her that she can now cry so that she won’t have to cry at the day of the wedding and she did. Tita kept crying that her tears fell in the cake batter which caused it to be baked longer than it should have. Another is when they were preparing for the filling of the cake. Tita went to the room wherein Chencha and Gertrudis were embroidering a white French silk sheet with delicate pattern in the center of it and an opening designed to reveal only the bride’s intimate parts which is going to be used for the wedding night. Tita stood in there and gazed in the whiteness of the sheet long enough that caused sort of a blindness to her and caused her to be afraid of the whiteness of some other things and reminded her of snow-white images from her childhood but she still prepared the filling of the cake. After preparing the filling of the cake, they prepared the fondant icing. While making it, Tita didn’t realize that she was crying again that made the meringue watery if it wasn’t for Nacha noticing
