Manson and the Manson Family
In this investigation we have been focused on a suspect named Charles Milles Maddox, known as Charles Manson, along with the “Manson Family” members. There has been rumors and conspiracies of other crimes related to the family but the main crimes of focus is the Tate-LaBianca along with Gary Hinman which was later discovered and connected by the Malibu Police Department. The two gruesome murders that occurred and were handled by the LAPD was first the murder of Sharon Tate along with four of her friends in the house that night. The following night the couple Leno and Rosemary LaBianca were murdered as well. LaBianca took place in the Los Angeles area while Hinman took place in the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu. The Tate murders take place on Cielo Drive near Beverly Hills. A motive to commit this crime was for personal cause homicide, this was a need for revenge. These crimes weren’t necessarily hate crimes but it was more to send a message of the wrong doing that Charles Manson felt was done to him. Originally the house targeted on Cielo drive was targeted to represent the destruction of the glorious fame and fortune. The past people who lived in that house all had celebrity statues. Manson felt like that was taken from him when Beach Boy, Dennis Wilson stole his song and producer Terry Melcher took back his record contract with Manson. Melcher himself didn’t live in the house on Cielo Drive anymore but anyone who did Charles Manson wanted dead. There was a period of time before Manson got to the point of constructing a murder. He idolized fame and he turned resentful when he never had it. Before being denied a record contract and turning resentful toward famous people, Manson was inspired by and idolized the Beatles. Although it wasn’t a positive influence their songs inspired him, “Helter Skelter” became a motto to Manson. Two of the Beatles other songs, Blackbird and Piggy’s inspired him as well. She had Manson in Cincinnati and was in Manson’s life for a short amount of time. At a young age Manson went between different relatives because his mother was charged with attempted robbery at the age of four. At thirteen he was sent to Gibault School for Boys in Terre Haute, Indiana, for stealing. Manson was arrested for things such as auto theft, drug dealing, pimping and prostitution; He was practically in and out of jail his whole life. When released from prison in March of 1967 Manson moved to California, during this time the 60s was the decade of love,sex,and drugs. Many “hippies” were attending the “summer of love” in Ashbury. He met teenagers girls such as Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Linda Kasabian. These girls were from middle class homes but broken in a way. Manson made these girls feel good about themselves, they had sex, and he basically filled a void for these girls. More and more followers became members of the Manson Cult Family. The family was made up of males and females and Manson was able to manipulate and somewhat control the members. He did this by using many drugs and a lot of LSD, he took lower doses so he could influence the members. The members would do what Manson said because they looked up to him, he had them believe he was God and the Devil. Many of the members wanted to be like him and would do anything to please him.
