Correctional institutions like jails or prisons have specific variables that put them a different category when compared to other business or organizations. However, the concepts related to being an effective leader or administrator are quite similar across the board. The objective is getting the job done as efficiently, resourcefully, and cost-effectively as possible and unfortunately, a charismatic personality is not necessary. I can think of two specific individuals in the sports world who are experiencing great careers with significant amounts of wins and accolades, who are not mentioned in the conversation as it relates to charismatic personalities. He is known as one of the most polarizing figures in sports today. However, you can not deny how he enforces the winning mentality without public hugs and kisses. He keeps a business mentality. His players respond accurately to respect and trust which are the principles and values of the organization with the same goals in mind which are winning (Burnett, 2017). In a correctional institution, it is protecting the public from the confined offender while providing a safe environment for staff and inmates. The facility is also held accountable for developing programs for inmates that will prepare them for a law-abiding life outside of the prison walls. The leaders of the must hire a staff that is ethical, professional, adequately trained with a diverse perspective. A leader that has this level of forwarding thinking has characteristics that include high integrity and ethics that projected on and off duty.
