What do you call a brunette standing between two blondes? An Interpreter. Blonde females are portrayed as being always attractive, desirable and sexually available, whilst at the same time making little use of their intelligence. Marilyn Monroe is american model, actress and singer, who was distinguished as a divine photogenic sex idol all her life, she is an excellent example of the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype. Although Marilyn was not educated she aspired to enhance her intelligence not to prove anything to anyone but for her own self-fulfillment. Despite her dyslexia and bipolar disorder, she had an ambition to learn and enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Marilyn Monroe created the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype herself, but not as a reflection of her personality, as she was played the role well she was continuously cast for the role, which lead people to believe she is a true dumb blonde. Modern day examples of Marilyn Monroe are alive and well an coming to the television screen or movie theatre near you.

Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) from the television series “Friends” is definitely be considered the dumb blonde of the group. She is constantly making thick remarks and ridiculously dumb statements. A definition of the term ‘dumb blonde’ is a blonde-haired women perceived in a stereotypical way as being attractive but unintelligent (Oxford Dictionary). In my opinion this perfectly defines Lisa Kudrow’s fictional character, as she often finds herself in positions where she appears to show these characteristics. “Cuz I’m a blonde” a song written by Julie Brown, is an excellent example of the qualities they believe a ‘dumb blonde’ to posses, and is also extremely offensive to women of this hair colour. Julie Brown states “I never learned to read, and I never learned to cook. Why should I bother when I look like I look?” this implies that not only are blondes ‘dumb’ but uneducated and unmotivated to aspire an education because they know they can easily get by life depending on their looks. Blondes are often portrayed as ‘easy’ because men think that because she is ‘dumb’ it is easier to get in her pants, this is also the reasoning for blondes as sluts/sexually driven.
