When they first joined the war they are happy and ready for adventure and when they leave, they are left broken and transformed. In this example, Elijah Weesageechak slowly was stripped of his humanity the longer he served in the war. Therefore, throughout the novel, The Three Day Road, written by Joseph Boyden, Elijah transformed himself from a respectful Cree man into an careless killer. In most instances the media or government does not show the horrific parts of war, instead they focus on the good things that happen to make the people happy and not cause political issues. In his book A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beah dispels the romanticism around war through the loss of childhood innocence, the long road of emotional recovery and the mental and physical affects of war.

Then, Lieutenant Jabati showed Ishmael the book he was reading, which was Julius Caesar, and asked Ishmael if he had ever heard of the book. In reality, it is the opposite with life and death on the line due to unnecessary slaughter between human beings because they cannot solve their own conflicts. This devastating topic is told by Joseph Boyden’s novel "Three Day Road" by two different protagonists sharing their own adventures and their conflicts. The protagonist Xavier and antagonist Elijah experience bloody warfare ability to cause havoc. They begin to understand that bloody warfare can make them physically and mentally draining over time because how it changes a person personality making them corrupt with intent to become a windigo themselves like Elijah did, striving to kill another human being as their only goal for survival. As humans, Joseph Boyden is reflecting that if the readers were Xavier or Elijah themselves place in that unstable environment filled with diseases and distraught. At the start of Three Day Road we assume that Elijah and Xavier are very similar because they have such a close friendship and have the same indigenous background. However, when they are put into war we quickly realize that this is not the case. Even though they came from the same background they both experienced a very different childhood, which is lead to believe why they act very differently in the battlefield. Noah is the one of the main characters of The Notebook. He is the hero of this novel. Noah represents true love and true loyalty. In a way, The Notebook is similar to every modern day romance movie, and Noah represents the “dream man” that all the girls always imagine of having.
