Friends is an American sitcom that started its first season with twenty-four episodes, airing in 1994. The series stayed very close to the image of what real friendships are. Friends delivers hilarious day to day ventures mixed with a little romance. Friends is a series about six young friends all living in Manhattan, New York. Rachel who recently left her fiancé at the altar, comes to Manhattan and ends up living with Monica in her apartment. Jennifer Aniston as Rachel green starts off in the season as a spoiled “daddy’s girl” coming from a rich family. Jennifer has won a Screen Actor Guild Award, a Golden Globe, and an Emmy Award for her performances. They main characters and even minor characters do an outstanding job acting out each episode. Friends was filmed and aired in the 90’s and is still played today. The clothing worn in the show was time period relevant. The characters wore clothes that was stylish and hip in the 90’s. The clothes resembled what day to day people was wearing in that time. From high waisted pants/shorts, oversized or even shrunken sweaters, floral maxi skirts, to sleeve-less denim vests. Each character had their own sense of style that represented their personality. Phoebe that’s a wild, open spirit musician is seen to wear very flowy dresses/skirts and mismatching prints with a lot of color. Joey, another main character of Friends is a good looking, promiscuous actor. Lee Knowles, the protagonist in Rene Steinke’s Friendswood, starts her journey with the death of her daughter, Jess, who died from a blood disease. Taft Properties’ illegal dumping of chemicals in Rosemont is what Lee believes caused Jess’s death. Lee, unlike her husband, Jack, will not find closure until she gets answers for the atrocities done to her daughter. She will do everything in her power to get justice for those affected. This journey will lead her on a perilous path; but in Lees mind she cannot lose anything more then what she already lost. The novel Lord of the Flies was written by William Golding. Golding wanted the story to be about a group of young boys whose plane crashed on an island, trying to escape war. The whole concept of this was so that he can show what a group of people can become given a set of inflicting conflicts that can change them for better or for worst. He gives great detail on how they go from sane to insane in a matter of time and turn into someone completely different all together. One of the boys on the island is named Simon. Simon’s personality and traits are similar to Jesus Christ because they both posse a form of insight, spirituality, and compassion.

Although there are many different categories of friends, Marion Winik author of “What are Friends For?” mentions that some of the more common groups consist of the faraway, work, family, and former friends (132). We keep our friends because we value their loyalty, communication, support, and dependability.
Friendship is the relationship that helps humans get through everyday life. Without friends people would not have a strong support system or someone to have their backs through difficult situations. Friendship has been seen to be a key component in the development of characters. Directors and authors portray friends as positive influences on characters. Friends are especially important in The Hobbit and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Bilbo Baggins and Sherlock Holmes experience the benefits of a strong friendships. Through the friendships experienced by both Bilbo and Sherlock new characteristics arise such as the development of emotions and courage.
In Full House there is a scene in one episode where the family’s dog, Comet, ran away and went missing for several hours, throughout the episode there are short messages about not giving up and believing that if Comet loves them he will come back. At the end of the episode comet finally appears at night when the family is huddled around in the backyard hoping to eventually find they’re dog and just when they decide to go in, Comet comes running up and barking in excitement to find all his family in one area celebrating his return. My personal definition of "friendship" is a feeling or emotion expressed in such a way that another feels wanted and important, a relationship between a person or persons where everyone has some companion to talk to when their in need of one. I would define friends as people whom you can have several types of relations with and feel several emotions for that person. Someone that one might go to in time of need. However, friendships differ between people. For example, the friendship that someone may have between them and their parents would be different than the friendship they might have with someone their age. There are many different friendships that people have. Friendships can exist between best friends, friends, lovers, children, parents, siblings, and many more. All of these differ in some way.
On a conscious level, we rarely spend much time actually thinking about and classifying our friends. However, since I was a small child, my mother taught me to recognize and appreciate various types of friends. I have discovered that there are three different types of friends. I group them according to how well I know them and how well they know me. We encounter each type of friend everyday, whether in school, home, or at the gym. First, there are the "pest friends"- general acquaintances. Next, there are "guest friends"- social partners. Lastly, we have "best friends"- our true friends.

Growing up in school you have your friends in 1st, then in Jr. High, and then when you get to high school you might not even know or see your friends from 1st grade anymore. For the few people who’s had a friend from 1st grade till college I think that someone they need to hold on to because if they stuck with you through all them year I know they’re there for the right reason and there not just there for a season.
