Atticus Finch was a good man and a better parent. He knew how kids work and what to do to be the best he could. He would always do what’s best for his family. Atticus is the father of Jem and Scout in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. He is a lawyer and most courageous person in the town of Maycomb. This is why i think Atticus is a good parent. While respecting his family he respects his maid Calpurnia. He once said “Anything fit to say at the table is fit to say to Calpurnia, she knows what she means to this family.” (Lee 157) He doesn’t want the kids not saying things, that they are allowed to say, to Calpurnia because she’s basically family to them. He also doesn’t want them saying things that they wouldn’t say to Calpurnia. He had thought Jem had murdered someone and the police was trying to explain that he didn't do it, but Atticus thought Jem was being let off the hook so he said “I don't want him growing up with a whisper about him, i don't want anybody saying Jem Finch, his daddy paid a mint to get him out of that.” (Lee 273) Atticus cares and loves his kids so much that he doesn't want them growing up with a grudge against them or something people always say about him.
