Regardless of race, gender, or religion there are times when humans have internal battles with themselves, and are unable to perform actions. Such is showcased brilliantly throughout the novel The Battle of The Labyrinth written by Rick Riordan. The protagonists of the novel Percy, Annabeth, and Briares all face internal conflicts. All the internal conflicts of the protagonist’s stem from self-doubt, and questioning personal morals.
My book was the Kingdom of the Golden Dragon. The book starts with a monk and his apprentice in the Himalayas. They befriend some Yetis. Meanwhile a group from the international geographic. They go to the kingdom of the golden dragon. On the way they meet Tex armadillo and Judit Kinski. The group arrives at the Kingdom. they meet the king, their guide, and Pema, the guides daughter. Eventually Nadia, from the international geographic group, and Pema get abducted. Nadia escapes, but gets stranded in the mountains. Alex, also from the group finds Nadia's monkey, and follows him to Nadia. Alex finds her, and on the way meets Tensing and Dil Bahadur, the monk and the apprentice. They go to the monastery and heal Nadia. Then they rescue the girls.
Everyone is safe except for Coach Hedge. A girl named Annabeth comes to rescue them and return them to camp Half-Blood. Annabeth’s boyfriend is missing. Percy, Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon. To find him, the prophecy told her to come to the Grand Canyon and look for a boy with a sword. That was Jason. Jason had nothing to tell her but the truth. They all returned to Camp Half-Blood.

Starting from chapter one, Karl gets beat up by Gertz and the rest of the “Wolf Pack.” Deiner, Austerlitz, Julius, and Franz Hellendorf. ”Franz lurched forward and shot a fist at me that landed at the bottom of my rib cage. It was a light punch, but it still cut some of the wind out of my lungs. I coughed. The others laughed, so he punched me again, this time catching me on the edge of the chin and sending my head snapping back. More laughter. Franz then threw several punches (11). This explains that fear can be a highly motivating force because getting beat up helped motivate Karl to accept the training offer from Max.
Many people would love to believe that Frank Morris and the two Anglin brothers lived through there escape from Alcatraz, but it cannot be proven. It has been fifty years since their escape and we still have no evidence as to whether or not they ever even lived. Alcatraz has become one of the most haunted places in America and was home to some of America's most notorious criminals. Some will choose to believe that the ghosts of Alcatraz exist, but others may not. So, why did Alcatraz shut down? How did the prisoners escape and are they alive?
Chapter 34 is about a study among "57 college age women at a university and these women lives both on and off campus, mostly white ages between 18-25 years of age" (Chapter 34, pg. 410-411). Chapter 34 mentions how, "Drug use and eating disorders among college women are high because of sudden transition change from high-school to college along with pressure with courses, dating and peer expectations that contribute to eating disorders and drug use among college women" (Chapter 34, pg. 410-411). Within this study, the chapter mentions how "these women would use either street drugs or pharmaceuticals for weight control" (Chapter 34, pg. 411). What I find interesting in chapter 14 is the diagnosis and treatment section. The reason I find this section interesting is because I think it's amazing how new technology is introduce to the medical profession constantly to help with patients care. This allow health profession to diagnose illnesses and to treat them more effectively. For example, we can diagnose the size and location of a tumor cancer through PET or CT scan. Then there's 3-D ultrasonography that create 3-D images of various organs and structures. There's also surgery techniques that allow incisions of a 1/2 inch or less, which reduced postoperative pain, hospital stays, costs, and enable patients to return to normal function much more rapidly. Percy Jackson is the main character in this story, who is a demi god, who mortals are after. His name is short for Perseus and his father is one of the big three gods, Poseidon. He is suffering from dyslexia and ADHD, which could be deliberately added to the character by Riordan, to show he is meant to be a hero, and not to do well in school. This shows that school is not what he is good at, and he is destined to be a hero and save people. The character Grover, who plays Percy’s best friend, parallels a Satyr who is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down and is a companion of wine God, Dionysus, who we later learn, is the camp director for Half-Blood Camp.
The Hollow Hope examines the following research question: when can judicial processes be used to produce social change? (Rosenberg 1). Rosenberg starts out the book by describing the two different theories of the courts. The first theory, the Dynamic Court view, views the court as being powerful, vigorous, and potent proponents of change (Rosenberg 1). The second theory, the Constrained Court view, views the court in the complete opposite way. With this view the court is seen as weak, ineffective, and powerless (Rosenberg 3). In this view there are three different constraints that restrict the courts from producing effective political and social change. These constraints include: limited nature of constitutional rights, lack of judicial independence, and the lack of tools the courts need (Rosenberg 35). Even though there are constraints on the court there are conditions where the court is able to overcome the constraints.
Bettelheim says, “ That fairy tales have unequaled value, because they offer new dimensions to the child's imagination which would be impossible for him to discover as truly his own” ( 203). Bettelheim’s “Fairy Tales and the Existential Predicament” argues that fairy tales can help children deal with realistic structures and to better understand them and help them become a well mature adult in life. There are four points in any story first, the evil in fairy tales the child will decide who is good and who is bad. Second, is children gain assurance from fairy tales. Third, independent living exemplified in fairy tales. Lastly, living happily ever after. In the film, Pan's Labyrinth directed by Guillermo del Toro, it is influenced by Bettelheim.
