On Sunday, February 9th the a cappella group, Chapter 6, performed at the Hoogland Center for the Arts for their twelfth anniversary concert. Chapter 6 is made up of six men who are all extremely vocally talented and many of them are from central Illinois so it was a significant concert for them. The group uses at six part harmony for all the songs and they have three tenors, one of which does almost constant falsetto; two baritones, who do a majority of the percussion sounds; and a bass who can be almost always counted on to be singing the steady bass line. Chapter 6 used a combination of well-known music and humor to appeal to the audience and entertain many different types of people with different interests. This was my second time to see Chapter 6 and the two concerts were different from each other but both were very enjoyable. The first time I saw them was a Christmas concert so that had a completely different feel from their most recent performance. My favorite song that Chapter 6 performed was a mash up of “The Sugar Plum Fairy” from The Nutcracker and the “James Bond Theme....
On November 16th, 2013, I attended a concert choir, fall choral concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College Campus, in the Edman Chapel at 7:30 pm. The chapel was well-lit, with long pews for the audience to be seated. The concert began with the audience looking up into a balcony, where the ensemble stood in neat rows. They watched the conductor, who stood on a stage in front of the audience, waiting for their cue.
On March 13th the Rochester Oratorio Society and Houghton College Choir performed at the Hochstein Performance Hall in the city of Rochester. It was a predominately vocal concert with an accompanying pianist. The main performance of the evening was the Rochester Oratorio Society’s rendition of Johannes Brahms’ “Ein deutsches Requiem,” in which vocal soloists Elena O’Connor and Benjamin Bloomfield took the front stage, and Linda Boianova joined Kevin Nitsch as a second pair of hands behind the piano.
Before 1925 recordings were made with an acoustical horn that would capture the sound of the musicians in front of it and transferred the vibration to a cutting stylus. No electricity was used. This process was called the acoustical process. In 1925, microphones were introduced to transfer the acoustical energy to an electric signal, which fed the cutting stylus. This electrical process ameliorated recordings sound.
Chapter 18: Israel expresses his feeling about what the boat was named, and ask Paul for it to be changed to something better, because the boat name reminds him of imprisonment, which reminds Israel where he have been the last few times when he was captured by authorities. When thinking that he could not find a replacement of the name, he yelled out “Poor Richard”, and Paul agreed with it and stated that “In honor of him saying that ‘God helps them that help themselves,’ as Poor Richard says.” (Melville, 131) A while after, it was renamed Bon Homme Richard. They traveled near the Cheviot Hills, which is between England and Scotland. When arriving in Scotland, Israel was put in the Pisa of the Richard to watch out for any man that comes into Scotland. Another rare occurrence; real songwriters and musicians playing their own music! The five-piece band is led by vocalist, Karin Barquist, and her husband Linford Detweiler, keyboardist and collaborator. The rest of the band consists of Paul Moak who played the sitar during the opening song and lead guitar during most of the others, Will Seyles on drums, and Rick Plant on bass guitar. But Barquist seems to be the key member in the band. She has all the qualities a good lead singer should have; great voice, good-looking, poised, mature and confident. She really runs the show up there, and makes it look effortless in the process.
In reading this chapter I came to acknowledge a lot facts that I didn’t realize about the British Zulu war. The battle at Rorke’s drift, and the battle at Isandhlwana are the chapter main focus in book Carnage and Culture. It gave multitudes of information that went well in detail about the battles. After reading the chapter, and researching the information on the war, and comparing the information presented by Victor Davis Hanson I found the information insightful and correct. He backs up his statements with facts and explains how western military forces were so dominate because of tactics, discipline and technology.
Chapter Four gives a developmental perspective of addiction. There are multiple developmental theories that are used to understand the stages of life and how addiction is perceived in each stage.
Waiting impatiently for the arrival of the Allegro Middleseton the Upper Chadwell Green Monitoring Unit counted every wheel-turn between start and finish of its journey, a journey that took the massive double engined, battery-powered shining blue train through the rain directly towards, and beyond the huge railway configuration situated between smokestacks 2 and 3. Upper Chadwell Green Monitoring Unit also checked on the whereabouts of Coal Train 6476.
This time, there was vocal accompaniment to the second piece, which clearly made it much different than the other works that I listened to. The Lord Nelson Mass was one that I enjoyed more and I feel that is because of the choir that performed. Although it is not the type of music that I usually listen to, it still has some more similarities than the symphony by Mozart. The Lord Nelson Mass, composed by Haydn, was my favorite performance of the evening.
Yaghjian deals in this chapter with how to write a theological reflection paper (TRP) well along with “rhetorics of process, problem solving and proclamation” (18). The beginning of this chapter memo is not simply an “academic exercise” but rather a good instruction to write TRP well. The author admits that there is no such model of writing Theological Reflection Paper, because different writers write a reflection paper depending on their specialization. To write a Theological Reflection Paper is to have a clear understanding of what does it mean to be “theological reflection” and the reason of writing their reflection in their particular context. Determining writing what type of paper also essential in writing reflection paper.
The two concerts that I chose to go see were Stanislaus State Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensembles & Combos Concert. These two concerts are both very similar yet different in their own ways. Each piece also has many attributes to contribute and it was fun being able to watch two very different genres.
On Wednesday, May 23rd, I attended the College Choir concert in the Reamer Campus Center. The choir performed a variety of songs, ranging from pieces in Latin to traditional American folksongs. Two of the pieces featured solos, and one even featured percussion instruments. Mrs. Elinore Farnum provided piano accompaniment for each of the songs, and performed beautifully. I was extremely impressed by the talented choir members and their ability to sing such a varied range of songs.
After reading chapter 8, I realized that I had prior knowledge to the information that was provided in the chapter. With this in mind, the chapter’s main focus was on students being able to comprehend stories and the most important elements that comes from reading to students. One important part of information that was discussed in the textbook is the elements of story structure. The textbook states, “stories have unique structural elements that distinguish them from other forms of literature, In fact, the structure of stories is quite complex-plot, characters, setting and other elements interact to produce a story. Authors manipulate the elements to make their stories complex and interesting. The five most important elements of story structure are
In conclusion, the concert was really interesting and I enjoyed myself. In my opinion the two pieces that I really like in this concert, are Sounden Horn and Polonaise from Engine Onegin, the shift between the melodic lines and the element of beauty is what made me like it. In the future I would recommend it to my friends and I will not mind to go with them at all. This kind of music is the best to me by far.
