Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 14 1965,while attending the play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. He got shot in the head. Booth wanted to revive the confederate cause by eliminating the three most important officials of the united states government. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was unjust because he led the United States through Civil War and issued the Emancipation Proclamation; However some people believe he was the cause of the nation’s dividing. Abraham Lincoln shouldn’t have been assassinated because he led the United States through the Civil War. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “America will not be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedom, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” this proves Lincoln wanted to be strong and fight for the United States. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated states, and parts of states are, and henceforward shall be free”. This shows Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation so all slaves could be free. The Proclamation helped the slaves who were not free become free, it let blacks join the army and get more jobs they never could have before the Proclamation was issued. However others believed that Abraham Lincoln was the cause of the nation’s dividing. Even though others thought Lincoln was the cause of the nation’s dividing, Lincoln was not.
