In the Marvel universe, Norman Osbourn is a scientist who discovered a formula that could apparently give someone superhuman powers. After an accident with experimenting with this discovery, Osbourn had the formula explode in his face. This caused him to get superhuman powers, but also caused him severe insanity. Because of this, Osbourn’s insanity caused him to take the form of Green Goblin, one of Spiderman’s biggest enemies. In a way, Osbourn’s acquisition of knowledge is what drove him insane. The concept of acquiring knowledge is also present in Frankenstein.
