This is a causal argument and we want to prove that smoking does cause cancer. Other reasons can also cause cancer such as genetic factors, sun exposure, or sedentary lifestyle. This argument would make this stronger if we do a controlled experiment to clarify the relationship between A and B. If we say that A causes B, we know that A contributed to B but it won’t be a sufficient condition. For example, the doctor recommended to kids and older adults that they need get a flu shot every year. If they get a flu shot they are more likely to be healthy.
