Experiences I’ve Gained, being in FIRST Robotics Being on a First Robotics team, Cat Attack team 451, was a lot of fun during high school, but it’s quite stressful as well. Every year in January, the game is announced and we are given six weeks to build a robot. The stress comes from having to build a fully functioning robot in such a short time. The total time we meet and worked adds up to be 64 hours. During these 64 hours: We found out what the function of the robotic is supposed to be able to do “is it suppose to climb or throw.” After that we brain stormed on the design and build of the robot. will be doing. However, how is it going to do it, this was often the hardest part for me was coming up with something from nothing. They also have …show more content…

After everyone arrived the pit crew gathered in our stand in the pit area. We unpacked the robot and put the two mechanisms on, which we took off before sealing Cat-a-pult, to continue working on them. Then we made sure that Cat-a-pult functioned correctly before the practice matches began. In those matches we were playing a little bit of catch up, because the first practice match we were in we just sat there doing absolutely nothing. In my mind the only thing going on was “why are we doing nothing?” Turns out the Ethernet cable connecting to some electronic board came unplugged or we Seth forgot to plug it in, or just swiftly did the wiring. It’s very hard to tell with his personality, he was more like a robot than a person at times. After practice matches ended that day we headed over to the hotels to end the night. In day 2 qualification and elimination rounds were held. During the qualification rounds you’re ranked by how many wins and losses you’ve accumulated. During the practice matches we focused on fixing all the problems we had with Cat-a-pult. After we fixed everything we started working on the autonomous code to score in the high goal. After qualification rounds are over, this year we actually ranked in the top 20 of 50 …show more content…

A total of nine, 3 cell teams, so only 27 teams, competed in these rounds. The top 9 teams are the captains and they pick the teams they wanted these moments are the most suspenseful out of the entire competition. You feel like there’s a heavy weight on your chest and throughout your body of “are they going to pick us, please call our team!” Team after team began being called up to the arena, filling up those 18 spots, not one being us. That feeling of not being picked just intensifies. With only a few spots left, we ended up being on top of the list from all the names removed. 5…4…3 the spaces just continued to shrink while our nerves grew more on edge and the feeling of not being picked intensified. Soon only one spot was left, my mind and probably everyone else’s screamed “pick us”, then they called the team #4…5… this is it we’re going to get picked, with that feeling of being picked, was ultimately crushed 4509 not 451, and this robot was ultimately just a wooden box, again a
