Micro Interventions Utilizing a person centered approach focusing on Mr. Stone and not the environment, the social worker will work with Mr. Stone to determine the cause of his hoarding behavior. The social worker will establish trust with Mr. Stone by acknowledging his attachments to his items and not removing them unless permission is granted. Trust with Mr. Stone will also be established by reflecting professional openness and honestly as it relates to the severity of the hoarding condition; the social worker will not minimize possible consequences to his situations which may include the social worker seeking out other professionals who are legally obligated to provide intervention. Stone within a short period of time of the initial visit to monitor his progress with his goal. Allowing Mr. Stone the opportunity to work towards an agreed upon short term objective, such as Mr. Stone will place the garbage strewn around the kitchen into a proper trash receptacle and remove the trash from the home, places control of the situation with him and will allow the social worker to further assess his flexibility and adaptiveness to addressing the hoarding behavior. While working towards a healthy and safe living environment for Mr. Stone, the social worker will immediately coordinate needed services in the home for him. With Mr. Stone’s input, as there may be a cost associated with the service, the social worker will arrange snow removal from his home in an attempt to prevent future falls on the icy sidewalks.
