The case study of Kathryn Carlson and Andy Randolph was about a third grade student who was having trouble academically and behaviourally. This case study follows the life of Andy, the third grade student, and Kathryn, a special needs educator, as they decide whether or not Andy should receive his IEP in the fourth grade. This case study began in Andy 's second grade when he first received his IEP. In his third grade year, he was in Mrs. Sachs ' class, who is a strict teacher. In that environment, Andy could not succeed. However, he was also in a resource room with Kathryn, but in the resource room, he was showing little progress. I do not think being in Mrs. Sachs 's class was the best fit for him because she did not try to fit his needs. Mrs. Sachs is an incredibly strict teacher that does not tolerate students that are not at the standard curriculum. The best support for Andy, might be switching to a new teacher or Andy might benefit from one-on-one instruction, where he will be the center of someone 's attention. I would like to learn more about Andy 's home life, there was some mention of his family and his mother, but there was not much. A student 's home life plays a tremendous role in how they do at school. It seemed that Andy did not have the best home life; his mother was also distant and did not play an active role in her child 's education. Also, there was no mention of a father. However, I believe Andy can succeed in school if he is put in a more positive environment with teachers that actually believe he can succeed and do not become easily frustrated with
