Aging is inevitable. People go through life meeting milestones such as going to college, getting married, having children, and then growing old. Getting older is not only hard on the individual but, also the family. It is difficult for a person who has taken care of themselves all their life to wake up one day and realize they can no longer do things on their own. That is why their are nursing homes. There are many speculations about whether or not it is okay to place a family member in a nursing home however, there are many benefits to nursing homes. The adult children of the elderly should opt for professional care for their aged parents rather than allowing them to live on their own because, nursing homes have constant help, daily activities, and people who can give family members continous support. From getting married to growing old every experience is new and considered uncharted territory. People do not realize that nursing homes were created to assist the elderly with everyday needs and activities. Children of the elderly should opt for professional care for their elderly parents because, nursing homes are equipped with resources to take care of residents and make them feel at home. From playing bingo to interacting with other residents nursing homes offer a level of care and comfort that some families can not. Growing old is not something to be ashamed of. Growing old means that a person has lived a life full of memories and moments that will last a lifetime. Nursing homes offer a person a place to grow old and still be safe and around loved ones. In the end the only thing that matters is that the elderly get the best care possible and continue to make memories with the ones they love. Staff nurses in many medical settings such as Skilled Nursing Facilities are at the forefront of patient care. Many patients in these particular settings are typically suffering from some type of cognitive impairment often related to dementia syndrome, behavioral disturbances or prior mental health conditions. Many mental health symptoms are managed by second generation antipsychotics. This class of medication placed the patients at risk for metabolic syndrome.
Leading up to the collapse of the Caregroup, a researcher on the CareGroup network started an experiment with a knowledge management system application. The software was designed to locate and automatically copy information across the network. The researcher left the software up and running in its initial configuration. The software hadn’t been tested for the environment and began copying data in large volumes from other computers. By the afternoon of November 13, 2002 (the day of the collapse) the software was moving large terabytes of data across the network.
Assisted living is an effective type of care facility programmed towards helping older individuals with their increasing disabilities. “The fit between individual capacity and the availability of satisfying activities within an environment is an important aspect of positive aging and an especially salient issue for ALF [Assisted Living Faculty] management, given the role of activities in the consumer selection of assisted living”.2 This isolation of this quote is “positive aging”. Positive aging is important since it leads individuals to have a happier and more fulfilling life, and it can be supported through everyday activities and through the living environment. In nursing homes, each individual needs help with making sure that they are given care that meets their needs. This varies through different states and also communities. The purpose of the quote is to show that each person should be evaluated individually, meaning everyone needs a different approach to deal with the aging process.
Having worked in the field of geriatrics, in a nursing home setting, I have had the opportunity to be involved in the direct care of the elderly. Over a period of time, I have come to accept living one's last years in a nursing home as an eventual "normal" response to the aging process. As a result of this study, I anticipate having an enlarged perspective and an enhanced sensitivity to the psychosocial aspects of aging.
With the aging population growing faster every year many families must make a difficult decision whether their loved ones should live in assisted living or nursing home facilities. I can relate because I made the decision to care for my mother at my home. Some people do not have the money or resources to care for their parent so they must live in a facility for health and safety reasons.
Because there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, taking on the responsibility of caring for patients in the home is a long term responsibility that requires a lot of planning and consideration. This is not a decision to be made on a whim or because of emotion. All options need to be weighed, and everyone affected needs to be considered. Placing a family member in a long-term care facility does not spell out neglect. Depending on the circumstances of the caregiver, caring for the patient in the home may lead to more neglect. The ‘right choice’ is different in each case, but without considering all the facets of your own situation the wrong choice will be made. I hope that this information will make that heavy decision a little easier to bear.
Older adults are a very knowledgeable population and have had a lot of life experiences. As people age, things start to change physically, mentally, and socially. It’s important to understand the process of aging, so that older adults can be taken care of properly. I interviewed P.R. who is a 71-year-old male that lives alone in his home. P.R. is a retired coal miner, and is currently living off his social security and savings. He lives close to both his daughter and son, who frequently help him out with things that are needed. P.R. was able to give me a lot of insight about specific challenges that he has experienced in his life that is associated with aging. As you can imagine, the financial cost and responsibility of caring for an aging parent are not the only demands family members must face. Most of the concerns and hardships these caregivers deal with are ways to address the needs of their parents while making sure they still provide them with the necessities. Eldercare creates a complex situation in which traditional roles of parent/child relationships are revealed. You may already be in that position or soon looking at it of being part of the 'sandwich generation', providing support for your own children as well that of your parents. Physically as well as financially.
As younger generations get older and begin living their own lives it seems they begin neglecting and ignoring the older generations. That is until something bad happens to their health or living conditions. So, us as their children must start deciding what would be good for them if a plan has not already been discussed and placed. So, what are the options? Most people jump right to the idea that they can care and provide for their elderly parents but soon realize that is almost impossible.

They also can live in retirement communities, which are areas that have been specifically developed for those in their retirement years (McKenzie & Pinger, 2015, p.288). Why some people send their aging parents to a nursing home? The answer is that some people do not want to take care of their elderly parents and some people think nursing home care gives the elderly a better care. Most people believe that taking care of aging parents is their children’s responsibility. In different countries of the world, people live according to their own cultural values. They have the right to express their own opinion .Some people believe that children should take care of their aging parents; others think children should not take care of their aging parents. I strongly agree that children should take care of their aging parents for some reasons.
