In the book Introduction to Research: Less Fright, More Insight: a Customized Version of Research Methods: Are You Equipped?, the author defines a case study as “an in-depth observation of an individual, animal, event, or treatment method (pp. 73).” In this paper, the student will be writing a case study about herself, and she will explain what it is that she has learned about research. More importantly, the student will then evaluate her experience from a biblical, Christian perspective.

According to textbook readings, there are two types of research, basic and applied. Crawford (2016) states “basic research is conducted to further the collective knowledge about a topic within a field of study, and applied research occurs when research is conducted to solve a practical problem within a field of study (pp. 48).” In Chapter Three of the book by Crawford (2016), it discusses the “Goals and Methods of Psychology” (pp. 45-48). This chapter brought to Ambier’s attention that psychological research had three goals: description, explanation, and prediction (Crawford 2016). Ambier was first introduced to the APA style in the first module, and the information she learned, in this module and all modules that came after, aided her when she composed her first writing assignment. She learned how to construct her title page, body, and bibliography. Although she did not have to complete an abstract, the course material instructed on that as well. Ambier gained a deeper understanding of the importance of giving credit (citing) to sources in order to prevent plagiarism.
