Carroll's Arguments Against Racism

Racism is a subject that needs to be tended to and the article “Leaked Documents Reveal Dothan Police Department Planted Drugs on Young Black Men For Years, District Attorney Doug Valeska Complicit”, written by Jon B. Carroll, proves it. I agree with Jon B. Carroll that victims who are convicted wrongfully do not always get the justice they deserve; this is a point that needs emphasizing because many people still believe that once it is known that the victims are innocent, their lives will fall into place. According to the article, the police officers of the Dothan Police Department are accused of planting illegal drugs and weapons into the hands of young African American men. The policemen that placed the drugs and weapons were part of an organization called the Neoconfederacy; this group was known to be racial extremists. By the time the public was aware of the crimes the policemen of Dothan, Alabama were committing, the officers were already holding the highest ranking positions. The number of convicted African American men far exceed the number of Caucasian men. The ones who are found to be innocent by the court are released without any job training or any idea on how to get back on their own two feet. Once released, they still have a felony on their records which make it nearly impossible to find a job. Moreover, if they have been in prison for a long period of time, they might not understand the little things that differ in everyday life so it could be harder to adjust. Because of this, they might purposely try to come back to prison just for the benefits. To avoid this, training programs need to be situated. The problem is, these programs cost an exorbitant amount of money which is why most of the people don’t get out of
