I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Caroline Scippa for her application to the Drama Therapy program of the California Institute of Integral Studies. I have known Caroline for more than ten years. I came to know her very well when we were both undergraduate students in the Department of Theatre & Dance of University of California, San Diego. I was so pleased to hear when Caroline was planning to enroll in the drama therapy program at CIIS and it is on the basis of this experience that I write a letter of unequivocal support.
The liberal arts curriculum UCSD’s Theatre & Dance department is designed to provide the educational experience of a small Ivy League college within a large public university and is consistently ranked among the top graduate theatre training programs in the country. We took several acting courses together, such as Contemporary, Chekhov, Voice, Speech and Dialects, and Singing. Caroline pursued further training at the British American Drama Academy at the Oxford University and the Studio ACT in San Francisco after graduation. I witnessed many of Caroline’s theatrical works on and off stage and I know that she is a performer and theatre artist at her core which I believe is an invaluable quality to have for the program she is applying for. I personally am aware of how reading- and writing-intensive the drama therapy program is and I have no doubt that Caroline will thrive and succeed in understanding, appreciating, and reaping the full benefits of the graduate level course

Throughout the years, America has pursued the performing arts in a large variety of ways. Theatre plays a dramatic and major role in the arts of our society today, and it takes great effort in all aspects. Musical Theatre, specifically, involves a concentration and strength in dance, acting, and singing. This is the base that Musical Theatre is built upon. For my Senior Project, I helped choreograph multiple scenes in a community musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. Choreography is a way of expressing oneself, but it has not always been thought of for that purpose. Agnes de Mille’s expressive talent has drastically affected how people see choreography today. Agnes de Mille’s influence in the world of dance has left a lasting impact in the Performing Arts Department, and her revolutionary works are still known today for their wit, lyricism, emotion, and charm.

I am a busy primary care physician, and several months ago had a challenging patient struggling with alcohol addiction and abuse. Such addictions manifested in the repeated use of the emergency room and hospital. I struggled with coordinating his care across primary care, addiction behavior health, emergency room and hospital services, and as such referred him to the Health Home team.
In 1839, Lin Zexu wrote The letter to Queen Victoria, in attempt to stop the evolving addiction to opium in China. The letter expressed China's desire for a peaceful resolution to the opium trade. He the limited and quite incorrect knowledge he had on the issue in hopes to gain sympathic understanding. Lin used Confucian teachings, historical events, plus forceful reasoning on moral grounds in order to persuade the English monarch that he would not ask of them anything he would not be comfortable doing himself. The letter created an ultimatum made by Commissioner Lin on behalf of the Qing Emperor to the English monarch, delivering the clear message that he and the Qing government were determined to ban the selling and smoking of opium once and for all at any cost.
Everyday writing has been done since the Sumerians created cuneiform. Postcards, diaries, letters, to-do lists are all included in everyday writing. Although some people claim we are faced with an inundation of information, and trivial writings should be discarded for the sake of space, it is important to preserve and study these everyday writings, as these everyday writings are part of the United States’ heritage, and studying them enriches our knowledge of rhetorical and historical concepts. The letter dated September 1643 which was sent from Lady Brilliana Harley from Brampton Bryan, located in Herefordshire, to her husband Lord Robert Harley, who is currently in London one can guess taking his part in the ensuing conflict, provides a lot of details about the time. The British Civil War, which had started the previous year, seemed to have affected the country much more than it affected the city of London. This can be seen in Lady Harley’s letter when she tells her Lord “I hope…that the Lord has been gracious to us, and has sent our enemies away from before Brampton” (Gowing, 152). With her husband a part of the Parliamentarians, it would be natural of the time for Lady Harley to also support Parliament in the current conflict. Therefore the enemy that she is writing her husband about which had been “before Brampton” can be construed as Royalists or even Royalist supporters hoping to gain another country manor.
On March 31, I had the pleasure of seeing Hello Dolly at Mandeville High School. As a talented theater student at the school, I take the shows that are put on very seriously. Being involved in the show, helping make set pieces, and working at the box office brings light to me as an individual, every little helping hand counts. I want to make sure that my school represents theater in the best way possible. With this production put on, I am proud to say that I am a theater student at Mandeville High.
Early life and introductions to theater and dance began when Katherine was just a young girl. Katherine’s childhood was neither the easiest nor the best. Grew up as a middle class child, till the loss of her mother whom died and left her brother and herself to their father, later due to financial situations the family had to sell their home (Banes, 1998). The play that we read for this unit is Too Much Punch For Judy, by Mark Wheeller. It is a form of Verbatim Theatre, meaning that it is based on the spoken words of real people. This play is about the story of a young woman who kills her sister in an alcohol related accident. When I first read the play I couldn’t empathize with the story as I haven’t experienced such a shocking event before. In this essay I will describe, analyse and evaluate both my work and the work of other actors in my group, focusing on the mediums, elements and explorative strategies of Drama.

I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of how theater is more than a mere performance, but rather an artform with nuance and depth. My knowledge on theatrical styles has expanded and some of my favorites we have studied in class are Brechtian and Chinese theatre styles. I grew up participating in musical theatre, but never had the opportunity to truly learn the history and details of the craft. After studying RENT, I am inspired by the various possibilities for theater beyond acting, singing, and dancing. Theater can be used for activism or as a form of commemoration. Theater is relevant by communicating issues to the world. Theater is so much more than a dramatic presentation.
