Introduction
“Capitalism: A Love Story” is an American based documentary and historic film written by Michael Moore. The film is all about the financial crisis and economy recovery from the said crisis in the United States of America. This economic crash took place in the late 2000s. The film exhibits heroes who worked in financial organizations and other big parastatals getting to paying themselves a lot of cash, hence deteriorating the economy of the United States. After this crash, the government of the United States offered billions of dollars to the same people. Although the film is more of entertaining, its characters brings the clear picture of the film. This paper gets to examine what the film is about and the academic literature of the film. The paper will also answer the following questions;- what is the film about? Who are the main target audience in the film? What is capitalism according to the film?
The analysis of the film
The film begins by picturing a progression of security video recording showing armed bank robbers. One of the muggers was on a prop. Moore employs the use of an encyclopedia Britannica library video to compare the present day America with Roman Empire. Home videos are also shown where families are being chased away from their homesteads. Moore through the movie flashes back the past best days of America capitalism, following World War II, then President Jimmy Carter’s speech which warned Americans of the risks of worshiping self-indulgence and consumption. During the Ronald Reagan’s years, the policies were loosened and corporations obtained more political power weakening unions in return. Conclusion
Capitalism: A Love Story is documentary film written by Michael Moore about the financial crisis and economy recovery in the United States of America. The film was released in 2009. The film covers topics such as Wall Street’s Casino mentality, for-profit prisons, and the consequences of run-away green among others. After the release of the film, many people could not understand what it was all about. Its relevance still exists because United States have not yet achieved complete results in improving her economy as called up by Michael Moore. This film was majorly targeting the officers in the government of the United States because they are the main economic pioneers, and they were really responsible for the past economic crash in the United States.
