That society laws were invented to protect them from those who would choose not to behave in a manner that society deems fit. As time has passed our law enforcement officers have changed and evolved to adapt to our society as it has changed and evolved. In this paper we will take a look into problems that could arise from traditional thinking officers and supervisors still working in the organization from the case study. We will use the seven elements of police organizational structure described in our chapter, and answer where it appears that this would be needed to reorganize an agency, and especially to accommodate COPPS. Under the COPPS umbrella the police department can look at two related aspects of crime analysis and crime prevention would initially increase the officers’ workload while all the officers are trained (Peak, 2012). Once the police department implements the two different programs the crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and the situational crime prevention (SCP) the crime should be reduce drastically under the COPPS strategy (Peak, 2012). By incorporating the COPPS strategy the police department would transform from a good police department into a great police department once officers learn how to effectively deal with all aspects of criminal justice procedures, the incorporation could not be possible without the assistance and corporation of the community working with the police department (Peak, 2012).

According to Bureau of Justice Assistance (1994), "Community policing is, in essence, a collaboration between the police and the community that identifies and solves community problems. With the police no longer the sole guardians of law and order, all members of the community become active allies in the effort to enhance the safety and quality of neighborhoods.” Community policing is evaluated by two means: the community it services and …show more content…

Statistics often give an accurate account of how well a program is doing within the particular community. Many questions get asked regarding community policing program effectiveness. Does community policing programs lower crime rates? Are the primary goals and objectives of the community policing program being met? Does the community believe the community policing program is helping?

A major part of any program, such as the community policing policy, is to evaluate the facts that are presented within these statistics. Proper evaluation of a program creates or is designed to create positive changes. Failure to change or adapt often results in progress being impeded. One major problem in law enforcement is the inability or unwillingness to take advantage of all available statistics.
