The website my group choose to do our rhetorical analysis on is CNN. CNN stands for Cable News Network. CNN was founded by Ted Turner and 25 other members in 1980. CNN originally was a tv channel. CNN lasted from 1980-2003 on tv. The tv channel CNN became the first channel to provide 24-hour television news coverage, and was the first all-news television network in the United States. Logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason. The layout is organized in chronological order. It is easy to find things by clicking on the different tabs at the top of the page. The titles and headlines displayed makes navigation easy. Some examples of logos are that it starts from top of website with live TV down to today’s top stories. Another example of logos is that article titles are attention grabbers such as “Ex-team USA doctor awaits sentence”. The attention grabbing headlines allows the observers to navigate to specific information easily. It's very beneficial to have live TV listed at the top along with the top stories for viewers to tune in on facts, and evidence presented. The show Moneyline goes under logos because it talks about politics. The variety show Sports Tonight can go under logos and pathos. The show Sports tonight goes under logos because it shows facts. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Examples of pathos can be sadness, anger, strength, and pain. I think CNN uses these types of emotions by using different colors for descriptions using context headlines and articles. It makes you angry looking at the way politics are paying to the government which is penalizing the communities . They use blue and red words. They use red if it is really important and they also use red for anger and blue to grab the reader's attention. An example of sadness comes from the amount of deaths tallying up over the United States and the year has just begun. It also is invoking the pain factor on our hearts for the families of the events that are going on globally. Strength can also be an emotion that can play on thus seen thru the different tab links like health. They use the color green to represent health because it makes you think of the environment. They use the color blue for money because money can be used for business, markets, and global. They show the color red if it is very important. They also use the color red when something is
Jonathan Kozol revealed the early period’s situation of education in American schools in his article Savage Inequalities. It seems like during that period, the inequality existed everywhere and no one had the ability to change it; however, Kozol tried his best to turn around this situation and keep track of all he saw. In the article, he used rhetorical strategies effectively to describe what he saw in that situation, such as pathos, logos and ethos.
A TED Talk video is spreading ideas in a speech that takes about eighteen minutes or less.In a TED Video, the speaker uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos, to persuade their audience to believe them.Ethos is an ethical appeal (credibility), convincing the audience that the speaker is someone worth them listening to.Pathos is when the speaker uses emotions to persuade their audience.Logos is when the speaker uses reasoning and common sense to get to their audience.
In the book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer wrote about Christopher McCandless, a nature lover in search for independence, in a mysterious and hopeful experience. Even though Krakauer tells us McCandless was going to die from the beginning, he still gave him a chance for survival. As a reader I wanted McCandless to survive. In Into the Wild, Krakauer gave McCandless a unique perspective. He was a smart and unique person that wanted to be completely free from society. Krakauer included comments from people that said McCandless was crazy, and his death was his own mistake. However, Krakauer is able to make him seem like a brave person. The connections between other hikers and himself helped in the explanation of McCandless’s rational actions. Krakauer is able to make McCandless look like a normal person, but unique from this generation. In order for Krakauer to make Christopher McCandless not look like a crazy person, but a special person, I will analyze the persuading style that Krakauer used in Into the Wild that made us believe McCandless was a regular young adult.
Pathos: is an approach that appeals to the audience’s emotions. Including specific examples showing how tragedies have been avoided thanks to first responders being trained. Also, included in Pathos are examples on how tragedies have happen due to the misunderstanding

... their arguments. Each appeal focuses on a different subject or idea. Logos is based on facts and reason, pathos is based on emotions, and ethos is based on character. Writers tend to use the three diverse appeals to attract and encourage the reader to agree with the writer’s argument. For example, in the essay “One Picture is Worth a Thousand Diets,” Goodman uses logos to inform his audience about his ideas and research. On the other hand, in the essay “The Good Death,” Webb uses pathos for her readers to be able to interact and understand her work in detail. Furthermore, readers tend to be persuaded by writers that have a meaningful and influential essay with facts, opinions, emotions, values, and character. The diverse ideas enable the reader to interact with the writer, and help the reader understand the work to the fullest. In addition to interacting with the author, the different appeals also help the reader feel and gain trust in the author. The diverse appeals illustrate how people tend to react when the author has gained his or her trust. Many writers tend to use one of the three appeals to encourage his or her audience to understand and agree with his or her argument.
When first watching the video I couldn’t find any use of ethos, pathos or logos but after watching it a numerous amount of times I see how each are being used. Ethos which is used to convince the audience of the author’s credibility which the author did. Using a news anchor they achieved that. News anchors are trustworthy and most if not all people trust them to present accurate events and news. “The Greek word for “suffering” or “experience” is Pathos, the term Aristotle used for a reliance on emotions to make a persuasive point” found on ethoslogospathos.com. The author defiantly used pathos to demonstrate the aggression and irritation they have towards news station that broadcast unimportant things on the news just too waste time. Logos was also used. When the author showed different scenarios of what the news teams do to run up the time is a form of logos. They used accurate facts that may have been humorous but was true evidence and it was easy to follow and had lots of
Pollan’s article provides a solid base to the conversation, defining what to do in order to eat healthy. Holding this concept of eating healthy, Joe Pinsker in “Why So Many Rich Kids Come to Enjoy the Taste of Healthier Foods” enters into the conversation and questions the connection of difference in families’ income and how healthy children eat (129-132). He argues that how much families earn largely affect how healthy children eat — income is one of the most important factors preventing people from eating healthy (129-132). In his article, Pinsker utilizes a study done by Caitlin Daniel to illustrate that level of income does affect children’s diet (130). In Daniel’s research, among 75 Boston-area parents, those rich families value children’s healthy diet more than food wasted when children refused to accept those healthier but

The action of the protagonist in “Ambush” killing the young man was justifiable beyond a reasonable doubt. In war, one is thrown into a life and death situation, in this case either the protagonist or the young man, who was identifiable as “the enemy”, were to die. In war, the goal is to survive and win the war in any way possible, and generally this will require one to kill the enemy. Because of this, the protagonist acted in such a way that, given the critical situation, was completely justifiable. One should not be criticized for killing another in war, especially since one is acting to save their life and their country. Each soldier has the duty to serve their country, and the country expects that when a soldier serves, the soldier will
I find myself diving into books right now – fact: reading reduces stress. The genre isn’t important. Riding the emotional roller coaster created by conflicting characters, action and adventure, or just the ups and downs of a budding romance, I sigh in contentment.
Pathos is a way of making you feel an emotion when reading the writing, When reading something you are usually left with an opinion, well that an emotion of what you feel about the article, novel, story, and ect. Staples adds pathos to this article to emphasize how bad racism was during 1986. A quote found in this article is “ As a softy who is scarcely able to take a knife to a raw chicken- let alone hold one to a person's throat- I was surprised, embarrassed, and dismayed all at once” (Staples 2). For example, Yousafzai speaks about girls and boys education because "... they are suffering the most" (Eleven). Using the word "suffering" draws emotion from the listeners or readers. This is using pathos because it is evoking emotion. In addition, Yousafzai shows that “... innocent and poor children are victims of child labor,” (Ten) instead of getting an education. Saying that the children are innocent and poor brings out emotion, evoking pathos. This adds to her claim by making education sound even more important. Pathos is used to evoke emotion from the audience about her claim.
Studies show that human beings typically make decisions based on emotions first (Pathos) and then look for facts and figures to justify it (Logos). Audience members do the same, they seek first to inspire an emotion in them, then, deliver the analysis to justify the emotion.
