A suggestion from the deontologist think the principle of ethics are unchanging and also permanent and the obligation is to follow the principles. Deontologist believe natural law is the rights of an individual. Immanuel Kant is a product of deontology he is known as the German philosopher. My definition for deontology is the concerns with duties and rights for the ethical theory. When you have a business your employees will showcase a based duty, de ontological based , and actions and behaviors are justified in the terms of honoring the company 's policy and satisfying terms of the customers that come in contact with them. Their are a lot of ethical paradigms but the deontological is based duty and emphasizes approach can satisfy expectations as a force to the person behavior and actions. Deontology mostly focus on n act and not not so much on the consequences or results of an act. Deontological haves a morally binding nature and it comes from obligation of a person that performs act in specific manner. A base duty may approach obligation heavily and a person that follows this kind of ethical theory will believe the highest virtue comes from doing what you are told to do. This idea came from what you were told to do, just as you would if it was the law because that 's what you agreed to such as employers policies. Your duty is the only thing that matters and not so much for the negative or positive consequences. Employee that believes strongly and follow base duty ethic can come off as a person that thinks outside the box. Deontology is an ethical theory concerned with duties and rights. The founder of deontological ethics was a German philosopher named Immanuel Kant. Kant’s deontological perspective implies people are sensitive to moral duties that require or prohibit certain behaviors, irrespective of the consequences (Tanner, Medin, & Iliev, 2008). The main focus of deontology is duty: deontology is derived from the Greek word deon, meaning duty. A duty is morally mandated action, for instance, the duty never to lie and always to keep your word. Based on Kant, even when individuals do not want to act on duty they are ethically obligated to do so (Rich, 2008).
Deontological ethics are “ethical theories that place special emphasis on the relationship between duty and the morality of human actions” (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2018). This viewpoint focuses more on the action itself rather than the outcome. Per Kant’s Categorical Imperative one should “so act that you treat humanity in your own person and in the person of everyone else always at the same time as an end and never merely as means” (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2018). Ethics in business is a highly important concept, as it can affect a company’s profits, salaries paid to employees and CEOs, and public opinion, among many other aspects of a business. Ethics can be enforced by company policies and guidelines, set a precedent when a company is faced with an important decision, and are also evolving thanks to new technology and situations that arise due to technology usage. Businesses have a duty to maintain their ethical responsibilities and also to help their employees enforce these responsibilities in and out of the workplace. However, ethics and the foundation for them are not always black and white. There are many different ethical theories, however Utilitarianism, Kant’s Deontological ethics, and Virtue ethics are three of the most well known theories in existence. Each theory is distinct in that it has a different quality used to determine ethicality and allows for a person to choose which system of ethics works best with both the situation and his or her personal ethical preferences.
Deontological ethic is considered an ethic of duty and considers behaviors in accordance to the manner everyone should act in a similar situation without singling out individuals over others or exceptions to the rule. It highly comparable to the Golden Rule. In a business perspective, deontology focuses on the duty and behaviors of a profession. Stephen, as a Chief Executive Officer of a public US corporation, has certain duties and ethical behaviors to abide by US business ethical standards (Dina, 2013).
