Burmese Pythons in Florida Burmese pythons are causing large problems in Florida. In the Everglades National Park, it is hard to spot any small or large animals, because the burmese pythons are hunting them. Which is concerning to animal population.
Burmese pythons have unique characteristics that set them apart from other predatory snakes. Burmese pythons are deadly constrictors that have a lifespan of 15-25 years. They are very talented swimmers, and they can stay underwater for up to 30 minutes. Although they have terrible eyesight, they can still catch very large prey. Burmese pythons can constrict big animals as large and as strong and an alligator or a deer, but they can go a long time without eating. When these pythons are born, they are 19-31 inches. But when they are full grown, they are 16-23 feet. They have yellowish brown or just brown camouflage skin that lets them blend in with their surroundings.
Pythons are an issue in Florida. Threatening pythons that are from Asia are came to the Florida Everglades in the 2000’s and are causing problems. Many pythons have been spotted and caught. Animals like deer and rabbits in the everglades are disappearing quick because the burmese pythons are wiping them out of the everglades! This a terrible problem that would take about 3 million dollars to fix!

In Florida, 573 people joined this competition to catch snakes! People who catch the pythons get cash prizes. If you come in first place with most snakes caught, you would get $5,000. If you came in first place for longest snake, you would get $3,000. But, to join, you have to be 18 years old or older. Also, before you join, you have to take an online lesson and test to get more knowledge about the hunt and the pythons. And, you have to purchase the equipment.
