The Burmese pythons are native to Southeast Asia. They can grow to the length of twenty three feet or longer. They can also grow to be two hundred pounds. They can grow to have the girth of a telephone pole. When they are young they spend most of their time in trees.
As they grow they become too heavy to climb so they spend most of their time on the ground.
The Burmese pythons are also great swimmers and can stay underwater for 30 minutes before coming up for air.
The Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes on Earth. They are carnivores and their diet consists mainly on small mammals and birds. They are even capable of eating alligators. The females are able to lay up to 100 eggs at a time that they incubate for two to three months. They continually contract their muscles to keep their eggs warm.
The Burmese python are in the kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, class Reptilia, order Squamata, family Boidae, and their genus and species is Python molurus. Some common names would be Burmese python or tiger python.

Everglades National Park since the 1980s. We believe that these Burmese pythons escaped from a breeding facility during hurricane Andrew. Another reason could be that pet Burmese pythons were released into the Everglades by owners. Because of the Burmese python reproduction rate it will be very hard to get rid of them.
The Burmese pythons pose a threat to humans because these pythons eat almost any mammal in the Everglades. These pythons are an invasive species because they are endangering some native species in the Everglades. Numerous threatened bird species have been endangered by these pythons.
