Throughout history, bullying has always been a serious problem in society. It can happen to anyone, ranging from children to even adults. In the past, bullying was thought of as a part of growing up, it was something that every child would have to go through in school. Bullying is defined as an act of aggressive behaviors that is intentionally done to cause someone pain or discomfort, this behavior is often repeated on a regular basis. Research have shown that bullying can have a strong negative affect to the development of physical, social, psychological skills of the victim. Research have shown that children who are overactive and overconfidence are more likely to become bullies (Bullying). The same study shows that children who are insufficient in compassion are also more likely to become bullies. Furthermore, children with low IQ scores are also more likely to become bullies. These factors are not surprising due to the nature of bullying. Children who have little to no compassion or sympathy towards others are more likely to become bullies because since they have no emotional connection to others, they wouldn’t feel any regret or remorse when harming another person, making it easier for them to be bullies. Additionally, children who have lower IQs would lack the understanding of the basic human feelings and compassion making it hard for them why it is wrong for them to hurt other people. There are many obvious behavior factors that can be related to a bully. Behaviors such as a higher tendency to act out or exhibit anger and violence. Family can also be a major factor for a bully. Children of a convicted felon will be way more likely to become bully because they have witnessed abuse firsthand. Furthermore, children who have witnessed domestic violence between their parents are also more likely to become …show more content…

Such negative consequences can be far reaching and long lasting, but some interventions, especially school wide or targeted ones, have shown remarkable progress in diminishing both the occurrence and negative effects of bullying. Lawmakers have attempted to address bullying by legislating against bullying behaviors; at this point, however, the legal attention has been varied at best. State legislatures tend to focus on prohibiting bullying behaviors without defining, or at least defining consistently, what such behaviors are. Legislation also tends to place much of the decision making authority on the individual school districts such that they different districts can decide on the interventions and general methods to address bullying. Although case law exits related to bullying, the courts have been relatively reluctant to get involved for a variety of reasons. Future work in this rea should consider addressing the legal inconsistencies and provide lawmakers with clear and consistent
