Brimbank Park is located at north-west of Melbourne, which is about 30 minute drive from Melbourne CBD. As can be seen from the map (Figure 1), it is adjacent to the suburb of Keilor to the north, Kealba to the west. The landform pattern of Brimbank Park is alluvial landforms. Based on the map (Figure 1), Maribyrnong River is across the park. Therefore, the flowing water erodes, transports and deposits sediments, and erosional and depositional feature can be found from fluvial action.

As can be seen from the map (Figure 2), the sites have been selected for this analysis. Site 1 is Top carpark (55H 31044.20m E 5821325.06m S), which is located on the top of the Brimbank Park. Site 2 is Ford on Maribyrnong River (55H 309261.56m …show more content…

As can be seen from the map (Figure 5), the Maribyrnong Rivers begins when the two major tributaries- Deep Creek and Jackson’s creek merge together, and then the river go through the Brimbank Park, downstream flows through suburban Melbourne before joining the Yarra River estuary on its way out to Port Phillip Bay. Therefore, because of the hydrology, there is erosion can be found in the Site 2 area.

As can be seen from the photo( Image 1), looking downstream, there were steep sections of bank where it appeared the erosive forces of the river when high have cause part of the bank to fall away leaving steep about 1m high drops on the bank with exposed rocky soil visible. The phenomenon also illustrate that it is an alluvial landforms, which will find erosional feature from fluvial …show more content…

On the Sandy beach side, as can be seen from the image 2 and image 3, tussock and native grasses leading up to bank, thicker denser vegetation closer to water, the plants are all lower stratum. Opposite the beach, where on the other side of Maribyrnong River, there is a numbers of Mid-stratum trees. As a result of this, the plant from two sides are slightly different probably because the different direction of slope. Therefore, there is different sunshine area being exposed. More complicated, it is also an influence by climate. Melbourne is monsoon climate, accoding to Figure 6, Brimbank Park is located in Australia Climate zone 6. According to the total rainfall map in Victoria in 2015 (Figure 6) (Australian Government, 2015), the total rainfall of Brimbank is between 200mm and 300mm, which is a moderate figure in Victoria. Moderate rainfall create a comfortable basic environment for plant to grow, and different area of plant would have soil different structure, weathering and erosion. As a result of this, the plant at south facing slope would be more sheltered and moister, more productive forests. As for north facing slope, the plant would be usually drier, and less productive
