For our art assignment last week, we made collages. It was a very fun and enjoyable activity, but for this week I am going to describe someone else’s collage. Today I will be describing Brandy Corsaro collage. It has a great detail and is very creative. It has a lot of originality to it and other aspects. First the collage is cut into a white circular shape with red lines, which is a baseball. I interpreted that the style of which it was cut and the symbol meant that they play the sport or have a involvement within the sport. The pictures that this person included in her college are very unique and show a lot of different sides. For my museum selection I decided to attend Texas State University’s Wittliff Collection. When I arrived, there was no one else there besides me and the librarian. To be honest, I probably would have never gone to an art museum if my teacher didn’t require me to. This was my first time attending the Wittliff Collection, thus I asked the librarian, “Is there any other artwork besides Southwestern and Mexican photography?” She answered, “No, the Wittliff is known only for Southwestern and Mexican photography.” I smiled with a sense of embarrassment and continued to view the different photos. As I walked through Wittliff, I became overwhelmed with all of the different types of photography. There were so many amazing pieces that it became difficult to select which one to write about. However, I finally managed to choose three unique photography pieces by Alinka Echeverria, Geoff Winningham, and Keith Carter.

I chose an interesting artwork; Octopus Mom, a drawing that is displayed in the CityArts Factory in Orlando. The drawing is of a woman with eight arms in the form of an octopus. Octopus Mom has objects in each one of her eight arms, these objects included a belt, duster and an infant child. The drawing is in a wooden frame and is surrounded around a room full of aquatic drawings. The Octopus Mom was in the aquatic gallery; which was one of seven galleries, this gallery included fish and mermaid portraits, a jelly fish projection and fish tanks with real fish. Octopus Mom portrays the limitless capabilities, independence and nurturing nature of mothers.
My journey began on a calm Sunday evening when I began searching for two art sculptures to observe. I walked out of the Convocation Center where I had just finished watching the Kennesaw State versus Troy volleyball game. I walked straight across the street to find The Thinking Rock sculpture sitting directly in front of me. I walked around and observed the entire piece, finding a wasp nest resting under one of the rock's ridges. I read the plaque that explained the rock is meant for you to stop and think about who you are, why you are here, and where you are going in life. I continued walking through the Campus Green where I observed colorful flowers, swaying trees, buildings I had never seen before, and students swinging in their hammocks. I stumbled upon the KSU Owl, which had three flags flying high directly behind the sculpture. I noticed the intricate details on the owl, from its sharp claws, to its beaming eyes.

Every day you wake up and experience some sort of artwork; whether it’s a sculpture or just seeing something made so wonderful. Walking across the magnificent campus of Iowa State you see many pieces of art, but the one that stuck out to me was the George Washington Carver Sculpture. When first looking at it you won’t catch all of the small details behind his wonderful work. Once you know all the fine details Christian Petersen did when creating George Washington Carver and why he created it the way he did; you will enjoy it that much more.
Caramelo has been quite an interesting novel. It describes a Hispanic family to the tee. Sandra Cisneros chose her title perfectly for this book. Life’s hardships and possibilities are explored throughout this fascinating novel.
The East Pennsboro elementary school raised money for a statue at a local park. The statue was a ring of children that were holding hands. There was one child missing; the link was broken. The statue was dedicated to East Pennsboro students that did not make it to their graduation. My sophomore year of high school inspired this piece of artwork.

Every fall high school seniors around the globe are in a state of panic. Of course you are no stranger to this process, you have dealt with this stress firsthand. What process is being described you may ask? The process of applying to college. Each year seniors scramble to submit applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendations to the schools of their choice. These documents are essential for nearly all students who want to advance to an institution of higher learning, but for many the paper trail does not end there. Seniors interested in a career in art, well specifically in visual art, need one more thing to obtain that sparkling acceptance letter. That missing link is a portfolio.

The way that Schwitters aims to link and make relationships allows the viewer to think as they view this work, he does this through the choice of materials and processes that he uses. “In its purest form, collage is alchemy: a power that transforms something in a mysterious or impressive way, merging components from multiple sources into an entirely new expression of emotion.” (Suzymae 2010). He merges together contrasting materials, for example metal and paint and random found objects with collage. These materials are never usually seen together and yet Schwitters manages to combine them in harmony with one another.
