Why are books banned? Better yet what are the reasons for banning books. Banned Books are always judged. By what they contain or what they embrace. To me they show everything else books have to offer. To open a world of imagination and excitement. Some books can show different perspectives on a subject while some can teach you things you can’t learn in a classroom or on tv. I’ll admit I understand the reasoning behind banning some books, but if we continue to have banned books, especially books that are banned for poor reasons, then it won’t be too long before live in a world without books. If I believe that a book is inappropriate then I can chose whether or not to read it. One day if it is to be I can restrict my children from reading, but more than likely won’t depending what is there because restrict them from reading I take away from them their freedom and desire to learn. We should not underestimate our youth, disguise our world, or get rid of the past. High school students shouldn’t be sheltered from what is true or from things that can change our lives. Everyone deserves to astonished by literature. Whether it is in a form of novel, graphic novel, comic book, or a magazine.
This generation, probably more aware of this than world than our predecessors, faces challenges on all levels as capable adults. We should not allow ourselves to be sheltered when we are not toddlers.
If the privilege of writing something someone believes in is taken away, then the privilege of believing is taken away. As the Constitution states we have the freedom to read and the freedom to read is the freedom to read anything. I have read many books that have been prohibited and that is the way I want it to be. The reason why is because my curiosity spikes when someone tells me a book is controversial, and the rebellious side takes over and I have to read it. Controversial writing keeps our minds
