Embraer and Bombardier aircraft are also part of major airlines though this is to a lesser extent. Bombardier produces jets and turboprop aircraft and counts American Airlines as one of its clients while Embraer serves about 30 airlines in mostly regional markets as of 2010.

Boeing is a very interesting company. Boeing may only be one company but they compete in two different markets: commercial airlines and the defense industry. The main competition in the commercial airline market is Airbus. Airbus and Boeing seem to have the commercial airline industry in a chokehold basically having no other competitors. Since the industry has high barriers to entry they will not see much competition anytime soon. Boeing is the American leader in commercial airplanes and Airbus is the European leader, which means they are constantly battling. Their competing aircrafts are the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747. Both companies have many variations of their respected aircraft and according to Business Insider, Airbus’ A380 outranks
In the 1970s, TACA Airlines entered its jet age when it acquired its first jet, A BAC One Eleven. The One Eleven was used between the 1970s and the early 1980s, then later replaced by the Boeing 737-200. Until 1980, TACA Airlines was owned by a Unites States company and was headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana under administration of the Kriete Family of El Salvador. During the 1980s, TACA Airlines made several upgrades to its fleet by substituting older turboprops and the One Eleven airliner for more fuel efficient airliners such as the 737-300 and the 737-400. In the 1990s, TACA Airlines became the principal user and launching customer of the Airbus A320 model in Latin America. The Airbus A320 were substitutes for the aging Boeing 737-200/-300/-400 seri...

The Boeing Corporation is one of the largest manufacturers in the world. Rivaled only by European giant Airbus in the aerospace industry, Boeing is a leader in research, design and manufacture of commercial jet airliners, for commercial, industrial and military customers. Despite enjoying immense success in its market and dominating an industry that solely recognizes engineering excellence, it is crucial for Boeing to ensure continued growth through consistent strategy formulation and execution to avoid falling behind in market share to close and coming rivals.
United Airlines aircraft have soared through the skies for more than 70 years. Initially used to transport U.S. mail, the planes soon took on a few adventurous passengers. In a matter of years, air travel was embraced by the general public, creating a demand for larger, faster, more luxurious aircraft.
Airbus and Boeing have developed similar capabilities, and an intense competition to be the number one in aviation. The market is a duopoly market, resulting in a low profit margin for both companies. There is slow industry growth in the aviation industry, and no clear market leader. The barrier to exit is high, which leads to intense rivalry between Airbus and Boeing.
Boeing/Airbus Case Analysis Competition in the Commercial Aircraft Business. With only a few large companies across the globe (Boeing, MD, and Airbus), the commercial aircraft industry essentially exhibits the qualities of an oligopolistic competition with intense rivalry. Here is an analysis of competition in the commercial aircraft business using Porter’s Five Forces. Figure 1: Porter’s Five Forces Applied to Aircraft Industry. Barrier to entry: - High barriers to entry, to a certain extent, help understand the risks involved in operating in the aircraft industry.
The American Airline Industry The Airline Industry is a highly competitive industry with companies operating in domestic and/or international markets. Many airlines are stilled owned by their respective countries and have treaties between countries to allow airlines to land there. The industry has been taking a relatively shaky course as costs are rising and profits have been decreasing. This was further intensified with the recent terrorist attacks on US soil, which lead to higher costs as the need for more security arose. Recent financial statements of major airlines showing major losses reflect the problems that the industry is having.
