My father worked as a Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry, and I have always found hearing about his work fascinating. Learning about the anatomy of the human body, with its level of detail and precision both at home, as well as at school, was something I’ve always enjoyed. However, my interest for Biomedical Sciences in particular, has only recently been discovered. I find the results of the body’s reactions to certain chemicals and toxins truly fascinating, and the complexity of all living organisms astounding. I soon decided from here that a career in science was for me, and in order to achieve this, I continued to study Biology and Chemistry at AS-level. The course has prepared me with a strong foundation of knowledge, ready for my Biomedical Degree, but has also given me other useful skills, such as analytical skills and the ability to organise my time effectively. I also study A levels in Graphic Design and Business Studies, these have both greatly enhanced my essay writing skills, ability to analyse situations, and the creativity I have developed has helped me approach problems in more effective, unique manners. I am able to write confidently, and with lots of detail, stemming mainly from my Business Studies course, which I believe will be very useful to me at University, as well as later in life. Whilst I was studying AS level Chemistry, I learned how to use a great deal of complex calculations confidently and gained further analytical skills from this. Being able to analyse and deduce is a key area of all sciences, particularly practical work and will therefore also assist me in the long term.
